Brand: "I Know I'm getting Booed"

Post#1 » by mkwest » Thu Aug 21, 2008 4:08 am

The part-time movie producer is kind of relishing the possibility of playing the bad guy when Philadelphia visits the Clippers on New Year's Eve.

"It was kind of fun," Brand said of the process. "All of the sudden you're relevant and ready to play some ball. It makes you look at what's important in life. I'm definitely loyal to my fans and to the NBA for the blessings and the opportunity, but at the end of the day you have to do what's best for you and your family."

And what kind of response does he expect?

"Oh, there's no question," Brand said. "I know I'm getting booed."

Fun. Fun? FUN????
WTF Brand. You're more than getting booed. I'm personally on a vendetta to kick you in the shins.
So shut your mouth and never speak another word about Clip Nation.

"I'll be 30-something in a year or two, so it's very important to go out there and win something," he said. "I've been on the youngest team in the league, the lowest-paid team in the league. And we made the best of it, but it's definitely time to win."

Go out and win something? What, like making it to game 7 of the western conference semis?

Or does he mean go out and win a championship with that weak team that would get bounced by the Celtics in 4 games?

Benedect Brand is going to realize he's playing with Andre Miler again and will be in for a rude awakening.

He also says he's loyal to his fans...I guess he means current fans not the ones who have supported him for 7 years.

By Brand saying that he's doing the best for his family means that he doesn't care about the fans at all. Past or present
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

Its business folks, brand gave you everything he had for YEARS. Your management in those YEARS only put a competitive team together for ONE season to show their committment to success during this time. Now I fully understand your disgust for how things were handled by brand but realisticly family is more important than fans. He was paid by the clippers for the work on the court that he produced during his time there and now is paid for his upcoming work to be done in philly, fair deal if you ask me.

You shouldnt forget all of the brand supporting post that have been around here for years that all of the sudden turn to bashing him. Forgetting about him is more classy than SH***ING on his name and character. Support your team ( which has some good talent ) and let the man do him. Hell it could be alot worse.........like losing your whole TEAM ( SEA ).

Yes we do realize that. The whole business thing is what made us dislike him now. What's done is done, and we will continue to support our team. I'm sure we appreciate what he's done for us in the past, but that is in the past now and what he has done to us currently is what has changed things. If his decision is best for his family then good for him. It's the way he did "business" with our team. It's not about him just leaving us for another team. It's all the stupid drama he created just to do it. Disrespect us, and we'll disrespect you.

By the way we were competitive for 2 years. Maybe 3 if it wasn't for major injuries last season. Year 1 we made the playoffs with Sam. Year 2 we nearly made the playoffs with an on and off injured Sam. Year 3 we still had nearly the same competitive team, but were loaded with injuries. Brand being the biggest one.

OK I can respect this. Its just that everytime I came in here I was only seeing brand's name sh***** on so maybe I missed some of the decent comments. As far as the way business is handled in this league its a dirty game especially the agents but when it comes time to resign players, teh history between them and the franchise does play a big part in things. NOW for your side I can say that since he signed that qualifying offer in MIA a few years back that maybe he was not fully committed to the team and that should have been a chance to move him for great value.

Then you shoulda come around here 6 months ago when he was injured as hell, but still our hero. The point is: Dude did us dirty, we hate him, don't come around preaching like you're gonna change our minds.

The crap is done with. Let us move on and enjoy our new team. :) No need to get riled up about it anymore. It won't do either side any good. I think it would be best if we keep all the Brand topics off the board, but I know that's impossible. :P

What's funny to me about the Brand situation is that he's now repeatedly telling people that the decision to leave the Clippers was all about family. It's not like Elton didn't know he had a baby on the way or that Philly was closer to his hometown when he said he wanted to remain a Clipper on July 1st. The puppet is all too transparent.

Brand makes no sense. He's not a man of his word. That's the relevant part of this story.

Trust me, we've all moved on from this and the name of Elton Brand hasn't even been mentioned on here for weeks. It's just that when he goes to the press and makes stupid comments like these that gets people riled up again. Does he really have to say "I've been on the lowest paid team in the league" and "it's definitely time to win?" That is obviously a jab at the Clippers and it's classless. He's the one who should keep his mouth shut.

We wouldn't be trashing his character if he hadn't handled the whole situation like a classless jerk. He's a liar and he was exposed for the two-faced facade that he is.

He more than received the props and respect that he deserved while he was here. There's Laker fans that take shots at Shaq. He helped bring 3 more championships to their franchise and its fans. The fact is plenty of their fans didn't appreciate some of the things that he did/said or the way that he handled things after he left, so respect and love is definitely lost. It's a similar situation with Brand except without the 3 rings. Many of us supported this guy throughout the years, giving him his due when the rest of the league was overlooking his performances and abilities. Many sent him get well wishes/letters/emails while he was recovering from his ruptured Achilles, as well as went out of their way to show him appreciation and support his first game back at Staples after missing most of the season. He then turns around and tries to make flimsy excuses to support his offseason actions so that he comes off looking pure. Yet he lied to his friends, his teammates, the organization and his fans. He has managed to throw cheap shots at the organization and Clipper fans as well. We owe him nothing more.

I wish he would have left on a more positive note, but it is what it is. Blood is thicker than water. You definitely have to put your family first, as that's all you have left at the end of the day. Just be a man about it though, and stop hiding behind the facade.

As far as supporting the team we do have...I have not heard from a Clipper fan that does not like the team that we have now. Some are less optimistic than others, but the overall consensus is that Clips fans are excited and can't wait for the season to start.

.
I think it's very difficult for people from other boards to understand why we feel how we feel, because they really do not personally understand the long-term or short-term history of this through detailed experience. And it's easy for them to think our feelings are not founded on anything, because they haven't followed it day by day the way we have.
So when they are inclined to point the finger at us, or give us advice that is based only on their incomplete information, we just have to receive it courteously and take it all with a lot of very large grains of salt. They're entitled to their opinions, and there is no way we can communicate what the last few years have been like here, or what those two weeks recently were like, and all of the detail that taught us things about Elton Brand that we would much rather never have had to learn.
Of course you move on, and I think everyone on this board is at the very least intrigued with the possibilities of this largely new team. Some of us are even quite excited about the possibilities.
But that doesn't mean you can forget something like the way Elton chose to leave here, or his agent's behavior, and the public statements he has made about it since, some of which were far from the truth as we saw it unfold.
More than enough to earn mass boos, repeated often, in my opinion.
And he truly did earn them --- much as his behaviour in the past earned him the way he was lionized around here for so long.
As for caring about the team --- it's people who care about the team who followed all of this so closely, and who know it so thoroughly.
