I can't think of any mainstream stuff I really like anymore. I absolutely love The Cool Kids...but now that they're starting to get more popular, I might have to ditch em. I follow a lot of LA/Orange County indie bands, and that seems to be the best way to find good music for me.

The Cool Kids are great, too. The mixtape they released not long ago is pretty sick.

I'm a senior in high school (I know, how the hell has a 17 year old been raised to root for the Clippers), whose life-long dream has been to get into the sports business when I'm older. I have just been handed a precious chance to get started with that, but it may come at the cost of other things.

I have been offered to intern at AM 570 KLAC, the #1 sports radio station in Los Angeles.

However, I have been a member of my varsity basketball team since freshman year, and have been starting since sophomore year (point guard, for those of you who care). I was the co-captain last year. The team consists of a bunch of friends who are close and love to play together.

The problem is, if I accept this internship, there's a high chance I may have to give up basketball, since I won't be there for many practices, and games.

So I ask you, RealGM Clipper Nation, any advice? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks guys.

Getting your foot in the door of the industry where you really want to work for at such a young age is quite an opportunity. Have no regrets, do what makes you happy.

Dude let me tell you, I am a junior in college (majoring in broadcast journalism in an effort to get into sports reporting), and no such opportunity has even come my way. I had just about the same high school basketball experience as you're having, save for that I was on the girls team, so I understand where you're coming from. As much as I loved my team and loved the game, basketball will end. Opportunities like this could make your career and do not come around often- TRUST ME (I've been looking for a similar internship for like six months!). I know it's a tough decision, but I'd take the internship.

And uh...I'll still take it if you decide you don't want it :D

Take the internship unless your confident that playing the game will take you some where. You can still play ball for fun even if you have the internship.

I know it's a hard decision for you, but it sounds like you already know what you want to do.

I'd say choose the path that you think would lead you to where you want to be in life. Do you see a future playing basketball? Will it help you get a scholarship?

The internship is a great opportunity for you. You don't want to put yourself in position where later you are kicking yourself on down the line for passing on a favorable opportunity that could have really helped the possibility of achieving your goals.

Whatever you decide to do, own it!

This is what I'd do. No one even knows when things will get better economically. So unless you feel really confident in your ball skills and think it can take you somewhere I'd take the internship for better long term benefits. You can always play pickup ball at a park or something with your friends.

Okay, so I had an interview two days ago with Brian Blackmore, the programming director for AM 570 KLAC. Gave me tons of advice and was very, very nice and real with me. I told him about my basketball schedule and how it would affect my internship with the station, and he was as generous as can be. He told me I can intern the 7 PM show, The Tony Bruno show, which was the show I was hoping to intern because of the time schedule (7-10 PM). He then told me we can adjust to my basketball schedule when the time comes. I will be able to work the first couple of months without any interruption with basketball because the season starts in November. But when the time comes, he told me we will schedule according to my basketball schedule, which was all that I was hoping for and more. I can't thank Mr. Blackmore enough for how nice he was to me, and how he's got not problem with my schedule adjustments.

So it looks like I'll be interning for the Fall Semester on the Tony Bruno Show (7-10 PM), which is a nationally syndicated show. I'll also be the captain, starting point guard, and leader of my varsity high school basketball team. So in the end it all worked out.

I'm going to be a busy, busy man when school starts. Senior year, college apps, college visits, more college stuff, basketball, internship. It's all for the greater good though.

Thanks guys.

Nice man, sounds good. I was about to say try to keep the basketball going. Afterall you are only young once and only get the chance to play sport at a certain level when your body will allow it.

What are other people's circumstances on this board? I am a Scottish freshman studying business, economics and accountancy at edinburgh university. Make an income designing and developing websites online. Played basketball since about 11, played at a national level when younger. Don't take it too seriously now but still enjoy following NBA religously

On another note I was once asked to be a guest on an irish radio station to talk about hybrid animals  (had a website about them at the time - possibly the strangest email title I have received)

I started college back in 2002, and dropped out after a couple years. I was undecided during that time and felt like I was accomplishing nothing and was stressing out over it. Was out of school for about 4 years before going back last year. Now I'm pretty much a year away from obtaining my degree in the electronics field.

I think what worries me most is just trying to find a job in that field after I graduate. I can't even find a minimum wage job around my area...

Okay so I didn't want to create a new thread...but does anyone have any experience in going to a home opener? I'm craving to buy 2 tickets to the opener against the Suns, will they be impossible to get? When do the individual game tickets usually go on sale? Any help would be great! :)

Congratulations. I'm happy that it worked out so that you are able to do both. You'll be busy, but it'll all be totally worth it. Enjoy it man :D

Anyone looking forward to 2k10? I love that they're adding My player mode this year. I had a lot of fun with the similar mode in MLB The Show. I think it'll keep me hooked for a long time since I'm not even a big MLB fan to begin with, but definitely with the NBA. I can already see the struggles of making the constant rotation as a 5'6 PG.

Too bad combine isn't available for the PC. :(

Yep I am definitely looking forward to 2k10. Played the live demo and thought it was awful. I have though the last 4-5 live games have just been unplayable.

What is the new My Player mode? If its putting yourself in the game, the Clippers will have a new defensive specialist, athletic, 6' 6 (in shoes) starting SF. :D

I suck at describing stuff, but here's a good summary of it.

My Player

If you don't care about running plays or running your own team as much as you care about creating yourself in the game and what color shoes you're going to wear, then 2K has the mode for you. It's called My Player, and fans who want to get a head start on this mode can actually download 2K's "Draft Combine" game online and jump in over a month before "2K10" even ships.

Basically, you'll create your own baller, decide what type of player he should be, create his look down to the color of his kicks (pink Jordans anyone?), then work your way up through summer league, training camp and the D-League to your shot at earning valuable minutes in the NBA. Play through the "NBA 2K10 Draft Combine" and your player will be better than any you can create through simply purchasing "2K10," and that advantage is definitely worth the five bucks it costs to download the game as the edge in skill points will really pay off down the line.

And what's cool about this mode is, you're not just trying to score 50 points a game to impress the coaches. You are actually graded on how you play with your team, and if the coaches look at you as being a bad teammate (constantly calling for the ball, not passing, not playing D), then you will actually get negative skill points awarded to your character. Definitely not the way you want to start your career.

And the longer you play (you can take your character up to around age 40 before retiring), the harder your goals will become in each game. So while your first objectives might be to set three picks and score four points, you'll eventually be competing for the all-rookie team, to get 25 career triple-doubles, and even to play in 1,000 career games (talk about sore thumbs).

These players can then be taken online as part of 2K's Team Up mode, where up to 50 gamers can form their own crews and challenge to be the best online team around. Crews can design their own jerseys, add logos and even watch the leaderboards to see which of their players stand out as online superstars. As you play online, you'll even continue to earn progression points for your created character so you can constantly improve his game.

I guess it'll be similar to the draft combine, since that seems to go hand and hand with the feature.

Already pre-ordered 2k10. Should be greatness.
