Your team this season

Post#1 » by addicted2noise » Mon Oct 20, 2008 5:03 am

Hey, Suns fan here. Just wanted to say that I think that the Clippers are a sleeper team to make some noise in the West this year. I didn't even realized how stacked your roster actually was until I played with the Clips on NBA 2K9 the other day. You guys have a solid first unit despite losing Brand, and there is a ton of talent on the bench as well. I think the only questionable area really is the backup point guard spot, but if Baron Davis is able to play 35-38 mins a game for 70+ games, I think you guys are in good shape to win 50+ games and make the playoffs.

One question: is this Tim Thomas' contract year? If it is, then you guys will probably get a huge offensive boost off the bench. I remember how hungry he played when he came to Phoenix for the second half of the season back in 05-06, and then provided a huge spark for us in the playoffs. Dude can be a monster when he has any sort of incentive to play hard.

Anyway, this was a pretty random post, but just wanted to say good luck to the more noble LA team! It should be a fun year. I'll be rooting for you guys this season when you're not playing the Suns, haha.

Tim Thomas has 2 years left and will be a 2010 expiring. Last year he had to put in some time at center, hopefully this year he'll only be seeing time at forward. He had poor shooting year, which really hurt, because we desperately needed the perimeter shooting. This season we have a lot of guys to spread the floor, and he should get some good looks when he is in. If he's not hitting, then Novak may steal some of his pt.

The backup point guard situation looked solid when we still had J-Will. Since he retired, Mike Taylor has been trying to make a case for himself to get some pt. Most of us have liked what we've seen of him so far. He's a pretty good defender, crazy athletic, but point guard is not his natural position. It'll be a learning process for him as tries to convert. Hart didn't work out in Utah, but he's capable of giving us what we need. He'll be more controlled, while Taylor will be used to push the tempo. In the event that Baron was out, I could see Dunleavy giving some of the point guard responsibilities to Mobley also. It's nowhere near ideal, but we should be able to manage if he's only out for a short period of time.

^ What mk said.

But yeah thanks. Good luck with the Suns. A lot of people seem to be waiving you guys off, but I think they're still a solid team.

I have faith in Hart and Taylor as our backup PGs. :)

With BD possibly down for 4-6 weeks the team may have to see if they may need to go get another back-up PG. There is about a week and two days until season starts so things may not start off good for us.

I really think Taylor will surpass Hart in the rotation. addicted2noise, check out Taylor tomorrow and then come back and give us your thoughts on him. He is really turning out to be a steal. I know this is pre-season but he has been playing well and the teams have not been comprised of summer League teams.
