Tough Schedule?

Post#1 » by NYCF » Tue Nov 4, 2008 3:40 am

I read a lot of whiny posts on this and other Clipper boards about how tough the early part of the schedule is. No doubt they play some very tough teams (Lakers twice, Houston, Utah twice) but 8 of their first 10 games are home games (and one of the "away" games is being played at Staples against the Lakers). I'm willing to bet a lot of other teams wouldn't consider 8 of the first 10 games of the season being played at home a "tough" schedule.

Whiny? There's nothing whiny about the truth. I don't care if all of your games are at home the first 10, if 9 out of 10 of the teams you are playing won 48+ games a season ago and you won only 23 games, it's a tough schedule. What are these "other teams" you're talking about that wouldn't consider these games tough? Lakers? Celtics? Jazz? Hornets? We're not even close to any of those teams. Our best player is hoping the team will be a .500 ball club at the all-star break and that is looking like the best case scenario.

You yourself said they would go 1-9...why? Because it is a tough schedule. Even if Baron and Camby were 100% it would be a tough schedule. For any average team that would be a tough schedule.

And anyway, nobody's saying they are losing badly all because of the schedule so I don't even understand the gripe.

I'm actually willing to bet that every team would consider the Clippers early part of the schedule to be difficult. Home or away, the Clippers have dealt with perennial playoff teams the first two weeks of the season. Saying that isn't a tough stretch isn't giving those teams nearly enough credit as they deserve to be quite honest.

For the record, home court in the NBA is a huge advantage, and to have 8 of your first 10 games at home to start a season is an even bigger advantage. Sacramento, possibly the worst team in the league. GSW, possibly one of the worst teams in the league. Houston, projected to be very good but the "Artest factor" could come into play. Denver, who knows, but a team the Clippers have owned the past couple of years. Dallas, a shadow if its former self. Lakers, & Spurs, elite teams. Jazz, very good, but not elite.

i don't think having a game against the lakers at staples center is an advantage at all, i actually think you could say the clippers had 7.5 home games.

even opening night was ALOT of laker fans, I think more than clippers.

Doesn't matter if you're playing at home if all your competition were playoff teams last year and you have a pretty much new team that hasn't found an identity yet

I think in a lucky break we might be able to beat the Mav's but the next two games are sure L's. We just don't want to see a blowout, this team has serious problems after halftime. I'm also starting to look at coaching as a issue overplaying Tim Thomas while not using Eric Gordon in games when we struggle on offense.
