Considering half the guys on the team are new, the beginning of the schedule was difficult and losing is frustrating no matter who you're playing, it's really not that hard to see why the Clippers are bad right now. I'm not even wasting my time to read that blog. If the Clippers continue to be a bottom 5 team in the league by January, I expect some major changes to the team's core. Unless the Clippers are still this bad by Christmas, reading or writing any "I told you so" garbage is a waste of time IMO.
But if it is a 2-year plan until everyone walks (which I don't think is a good idea), then why would you expect any changes? If the plan is to jettison half the team after contracts run out and then try to attract FA, then 2 bad years will only result in 2 lottery picks to add to the team, before the big FA crop. The easiest way for the Clippers to add talent is to trade TT and Mobley, but doing so would conflict with saving cap space for 2010.
There are some tradeable assets here (TT, CM, Kaman) as well as some genuine talent (BD, Thornton, hopefully Gordon). We also haven't traded any #1 picks away, and have one coming from Minnesota (someday). I'd rather try to work with what we have, I still think the team can be salvaged before waiting 20 months for free agency.
I guess it looks like the Clippers have chosen the latter, trading 2 of those assets for ZR. We'll see how it plays out. I'm expecting this early season re-tool to continue with a possible trade of Kaman. I think they're trying to figure out how to assemble a team that will work best with Baron Davis at PG.
