Houston interested in Baron?

Was taken from the general board.
http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/vi ... p?t=519165There could be a new guard in town for the Rockets -- and it's not Vince Carter. Houston has moved into negotiations with the Clippers for point guard Baron Davis, a source close to Davis told SportingNews.com on Wednesday. "It would be best for everyone if Baron moved on," the source said.
The Rockets, still smarting from the loss of shooting guard Tracy McGrady, who will miss the rest of the season with knee surgery, apparently have not given up on the 2008-09 season. The team has played well without McGrady, going 13-6 (they were 20-15 with him), but needs another scoring presence if it is to rescue this season.
Bringing on Davis would have some risk. He is in the first year of a five-year contract that will pay him $65 million, and he was supposed to be a building block for the Clippers. But Davis and Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy have not meshed well, and Davis is averaging 15.5 points, his lowest total in nine years. The team is just 13-41, coming off a humbling 140-100 loss to the Suns.
If the Clippers can get out of Davis' contract now, they will seize the opportunity, even if it means taking back the oft-injured McGrady in return.
and my response. :3

We'd have to give up another player though to match salaries... Going off hoopshype salaries. It's Baron making $11M(this year?) and McGrady making $21M. Camby is untouchable so odds are it could be Kaman included to match things up.

Dunleavy as GM has put the team in a terrible position to grow and improve. If we can unload Kaman and his contract, I'd be happy. But how many years are left on T-Mac's contract? He's declining a lot, and I don't think he'll ever be the same again. His game would also stunt any of our young players' growth. I think Baron can still lead our team if we switch up our style of play. That 20 assist game is evidence that he can produce efficiently if the style is right.

He's an expiring next season.

I would want no part of McGrady. Chances are he'll never even suit up for us next year.
I would however do Alston and Artest for Baron.

Well, someone else can work out the details --- I'm just thrilled beyond belief that there is another team out there willing to take on Baron's contract.
Who would have thought it?

He has two years left. This year and next. His contract is one that many are going to covet next year because whoever has it is going to receive a large chuck of change when his contract comes off the books to go after one of the upper echelon free agents of the 2010 class.
The down side of it is he probably doesn't suit up for you at all.
He would only be there for trade bait (due to his expiring contract) or to open up cap space if you choose to enter the 2010 market after next season.

I wouldn't mind it.
Though, T-Mac's having a way higher salary and that's why we'd have to include Kaman, Z-Bo or Camby, to make the trade work.
So maybe something like T-Mac, Landry for Davis, Camby/Kaman could work.
BTW: On the Bulls board there's a rumor that the Clipps and Bulls are talking about a trade involving Chris Kaman and Kirk Hinrich.
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=883091That would make some sense, if we'd deal Baron for T-Mac.

That would be pretty sweet, but I'd hate to lose Taylor.

Since it seems that HOU and you LAC are talking, what else do think a LAC would add with Baron for T-Mac? What about: Baron + Camby? I saw that he was suppose to be untouchable. Is he really part of your future plans and more important than dropping Baron?

anything for t-mac seems (Please Use More Appropriate Word) ... a deal around Kaman and the bulls seems more sensible, we keep shaking things up we'll never build chemistry ... EVER...

I say we do both trades, actually.
We are past the point of chemistry NOW, I think the main goal is to look at the roster and figure out who is going to be here in the next couple of years. No one wants to move Camby, but realistically he is not going to be in LA for the long term, and everyone seems to recognize his value. So he may end up moved in a package involving Baron or Kaman.
EJ and Thornton are staying of course. Thornton would only be traded in a package to bring in significant talent (i.e. not an expiring). I don't want ZBo to be traded, because I think his trade value is less than his value to the Clippers.

I don't know where to post this, and this seemed like the most fitting thread.
Anybody else notice that Sam Cassell was traded yesterday?
http://www.nba.com/celtics/news/cassell ... 90217.htmlHe was traded to Sacramento and is expected to be waived immediately, a la Livingston. So I guess what I'm trying to say is...bring him in! What have we got to lose? Stick him in the starting PG spot, stick him in Dunleavy's seat, stick him next to Ralph and Mike-- Sam would definitely bring a bright spot to all this.

I'm all for it. I'm sure we all would want Sam back. All these losses are really starting to get to me. I almost feel like a troll just from talking bad about this team all the time now.

Dunleavy should cut his losses and do whatever it will reasonably take to make this trade and I sort of have a feeling it will happen. Rockets have the foundation to win now and need to do so while the Clippers need to build around Eric Gordon on the fly and take a mulligan on last summer.
Camby is great and all, but this is just a Dunleavy smoke screen he's set over a month in advance to raise his trade value. Jordan has benefited from Camby's presence, but it's time to make DJ the third big man behind Kaman/Randolph and build from there along with Thornton. And maybe the Clippers could even make a run if McGrady is healthy next year.
Camby/Davis for McGrady/Hayes is a deal I could see happening. Dunleavy might be able to squeeze something else out of Houston. I have my fingers crossed for the next eleven hours.

As do I. I would also like to look into the Kaman/Hinrich trade, but that would then leave a hole in the front court. At least until next year when we trade T-Mac for more depth. However, If we don't do that trade then we go back to how we were the past decade. Talent without a leading PG. I don't believe Jones/Collins/Taylor/Hart can lead our team, but they can be solid backup players for whoever we get in the future.
I wouldn't mind doing the trade with Hinrich because this would give DeAndre plenty of gametime to develop into a better player. We all know how well our rookies, like Karolev, did while sitting on the bench. We also have Skinner to backup PF/C this year, and perhaps with the T-Mac trade the following year we can get some solid players from varies positions along with our draft pick too. Expiring contracts will play a
huge role in the off-season and towards the trade deadline.

Baron Davis for Luther Head & Ron Artest (who we would buy-out) and a possible 1st round pick. I say do it, otherwise trade B-Diddy in the off-season.
