Musings

Post#1 » by Miller4ever » Fri Feb 20, 2009 7:26 am

Hey, all. I've never posted here before, but I live in LA and I went to about 10 games when the Clippers were good (the season with Cassell and Brand and Maggette all clicking, driving the Clips to 4th seed, I believe).

There was one thing that always bothered me about the Clipper's schedule. Whenever it's a Clippers "home" game against the Lakers, the attendance basically turns it into an "away" game. Even the season I went to games, the Clippers fan to Lakers fan ratio was too close to be a true home game. That being said, the Clippers have basically 40 home games and 44 away games, which is unfair.

Also, LA fans in general are pretty bad bandwagoners, right after New York fans and Boston fans. I think Billy Crystal could beat Jack Nicholson in a fight.

That was a bit random.. but hi! You're pretty much right about it though. After that one playoff year I saw a lot of people wearing Clipper jerseys and sportin those homersexual window flags. Ain't seen none of that ish around lately at all.

I'd rock some gear but all I have is a Clippers beanie and a foam finger. I'm not weird enough to wear the finger around. But I do wear my beanie quite a bit when it's cold. I also refuse to pay $100+ for an authentic jersey.. That stuff most likely doesn't cost more than $10 to make.

If they aren't made in America, they likely cost less than a dollar to make. Same with all basketball gear, especially shoes.

The reason I brought it up here was that I was arguing with my Laker Homer friend that the Lakers have an easier schedule than the rest of the Western Conference because of those two games.

I can agree with you there. The Lakers are head and shoulders against everyone else in the West right now. You can almost say that any game in the state of California might be considered a home game for the Lakers right now. I heard all the cheering for the Lakers when they played the Warriors the other night. And we all remember what Kobe did in the Garden and everyone cheering for him in New York.

When the Lakers are rolling lots and lots of people jump on their bandwagon. I just wish that we could beat them this season.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

That's all it is, right there. When they're winning, a bunch of basketball-ignorant loud mouths jump on and start hollerin' for the lakers, whether its in LA, Oakland, Sacramento or NY. No place is safe, actually, except for maybe Boston. The lakers are such a commercial brand nowadays, and when its hip to rock purple and yellow, people do. I equate it to the Paris Hilton chihuahua fad. When it's hot, it's hot.

And then there's us. Wearing Clippers gear out and about right now is like wearing red in a Crip neighborhood, you know you're gonna get some sh*t.

I haven't bought a jersey yet either. We haven't had too many players stay the course. I was going to wait and see who was still on the team after the free agency period to decide if I was going to buy one or not. I'm glad that I didn't get stuck with that clown's jersey :D I will probably roll with the Hobbit though.

I've bought the cheap stuff off ebay. I had a red Miles jersey and a blue Q jersey a while back. The stuff was press on though so all the logos and stuff started to break apart after a couple washes. I wanted a Thornton jersey last year, but I never found any places selling it. But yeah, there aren't many players that you'd want to buy a jersey of at this point other than Thornton and Gordon. I wouldn't touch a Baron jersey at this point. Even with his 5 year contract.

I think you had to buy a personalized jersey if you wanted Thornton. I thought about a DIddy jersey at the beginning of the season, but I later put those thoughts to rest.

Like Fishy, I've bought NBA gear much less expensively on eBay --- that's how I got my Livingston jersey in the first place --- and enough said about that. :D
But some of the popular jerseys you can buy directly from China where they are made, through eBay, at a fraction of what you would pay here.
My son has always been a Garnett fan and I got him a genuine Swingman Garnett Celtics jersey for $35 by ordering directly from China over eBay.

Are they press on or stitched? My jersey's were like $20 shipped. Crappy press on piece of poo. I loved my blue Q jersey. I wore that quite a bit, but since the numbers and logo are breaking apart its like.. ghetto to wear it now.

I've never seen the China ones or else I wouldn't mind buying them for that price.

Btw I may have found the greatest jersey any Clipper fan would love to wear.

^ At Team LA inside Staples Center, they used to make a t-shirt that I've since referred to as the Sam Cassell Floating Head tee-- it had Sam's mug in black and white across the front, like those Barack Obama shirts. On the back was his number in silver and his signature in white against the black shirt. It was too hilarious to pass up, so I bought it. It's too creepy to wear in public, so it just sits in my drawer and stares at me every time I open it. Still get a kick out of the thing, though.

I bought a Clippers hat, because I figured if I got a jersey, it'd only be good for 1, 2 seasons tops. And I was right.

The Garnett one from China is the real-deal Swingman stitched-on one.
This was last year that I bought it for my son. But if you check eBay regularly in this section, just look down the lists for location: China, and see if there are any. I just now ran an eye over all the Clippers jerseys available on eBay and they are all pretty unappealing, Brands and Odoms. There is one Kaman jersey in Australia. :)
