Amare's Detached Retina
Anyone catch the play that detached Amare's retina? Was it that Al Thornton dunk? If the injury was that bad, why did he play the entire game.

Who knows, but I was reading the article from the wiretap. It said that Boris Diaw had poked Amare in the eye during training camp. This injury didn't slow him down when he played against us.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

Re: Amare's Detached Retina
I wish Amare a full recovery.
I had surgery after a detached retina a few years ago, and my brain never adjusted to the results so I have had double vision ever since. Luckily, they have found a prism prescription for distance glasses so I can still drive and watch basketball games, but they haven't been able to find anything to correct the double vision for close-up stuff like reading. Slows me down a bit, for sure. Good thing I'm not playing professional sports.

^^Man, that sucks. I know a guy whose cornea also got messed up when his retina was detached, and he's seriously color-blind now.

Re: Amare's Detached Retina
I saw the replay of what Al did to Amare. I had no idea that would lead to a detached retina. If the same thing happens to Amare as it did to you Cinnamon than Amare may be a totally different player. I'm sure the Suns will do all they can to see if there are some special glasses. Hopefully he'll have his site back to normal.

Re: Amare's Detached Retina
Actually, I've just heard that Amare has a partially detached retina, not a fully detached retina as I had. It makes a huge difference. Successful surgery for a partially detached retina should put him back in normal shape --- except that he will have to be very careful not to get his head bumped hard in future, or his neck snapped around, or anything that could jar his eye again.

LOL @ us fans thinking injury-prone Amar'e was a viable option for this team.

Re: Amare's Detached Retina
That's a tough blow for both Stoudemire and the Suns. I hope that has a quick & complete recovery.
If he would have been traded that would have been a huge letdown for the receiving team and their fans. I'm sure the trade would have been rescinded, but it would have been heartbreaking.
I think that would be hard to have that in the back of your mind while playing basketball. It rmeinds me of TJ Ford's spinal condition, where under normal circumstances he is fine, but a fall or a hard hit could set it off.
