NAACP Honors Donald Sterling...no really

Something's out of whack. . . .

Clippers owner Donald Sterling, accused of racism and embracing a "vision of a Southern plantation-type structure" in a lawsuit filed in February by Elgin Baylor, will be given a lifetime achievement award next week by the NAACP. . . .

Leon Jenkins, president of the Los Angeles branch of the civil rights organization, says of the much-maligned Sterling, "He has a unique history of giving to the children of L.A.," revealing that the owner donates anywhere from 2,000 to 3,000 tickets a game to youth groups for nearly every Clippers home game. . . .

Noting that the NAACP had made plans to honor Sterling before Baylor filed suit, Jenkins says, "We can't speak to the allegations, but what we do know is that for the most part [Sterling] has been very, very kind to the minority youth community." . . .

Baylor didn't mention that. . . .

There are so many people worthy of such an award --- what could they have been thinking to give it to Sterling because he wants to put bums in seats at Staples during Clippers games in order to make it look on camera as if more people are buying tickets than actually are ???
This is rather embarrassing for the NAACP.

It sounds like all Sterling is doing is just giving away free tickets. While I am black and there's nothing wrong with giving under privileged kids a chance to see a basketball game, this is more PR than him caring as much as someone would think in this situation.

I really wish Sterling would sell this team so I could fully cheer for them.

A more committed owner without the negative publicity is what this team has needed. As long as a new owner would keep the team in LA and not pull a Clay Bennett, then there's no question that it would be perfect. I've wondered who his successor would be in the event that he was no longer around. I'm not wishing that on him or anything, but who would inherit the team?

I would love to own the Clippers but I'm like many millions of dollars short of buying the team :(
I just need to find a way to make it rich.

I disagree with all of you. I have met Mr. Sterling in person. I actually filmed a interview you will see on NCAACP awards show. Donald Sterling is not a bad guy at all. Baylor is speaking non-sense. None of what he said was true. Why on earth would he complain about a contract issue that he says has be on going to for 20 years. Donald Sterling a good guy with a big heart. Don't judge until you actually meet him and speak to him. And NO he didn't give me a penny.
