Oh the horror, the horror! Davis will be back...

HOOPSWORLD.com has learned that Quentin Richardson of the New York Knicks and Ricky Davis of the Los Angeles Clippers have opted to stay with their respective teams an additional season.

Richardson had an early termination option on the $8.7 million salary for the 2009/10 season, which is now locked in with the Knicks.

Davis, coming off a year with a terrible case of knee tendinitis, exercised his player option for $2.4 million.

The Clippers are curious to see of Davis can rebound with a healthy knee, although it wouldn't be a surprise if Ricky was included in a deal sending out one of LA's "extra" big men (Chris Kaman, Zach Randolph and/or Marcus Camby).

I couldn't see him walking away from that much money. He probably will get traded as filler in a bigger deal, but I do wonder how much time he'll get if he's still on the team at the start of the season.

Not a concern to me. He wasn't an issue last year in the locker room. If he is plagued with another injury year.. Well I'm sure we're use to that crap so it won't really matter much. He only takes up 2M? Decent trade bait later on in the season.

I also figured that he would exercise his option, after being injured last season I'm not sure that any team would give him more than $2 million.

The thing is, no team has had success until AFTER he left. Even though it's coincidence, the thought of it still lingers in my head. =[

He's cheap and didn't disrupt the team. And if he's healthy he can score and not be a total liability in limited minutes.

Only in pro sports does $2.4 million for 'meh' seem like a reasonable deal.

Well I think that's a bit silly really.. I know Ricky was around when LeBron first came into the league.. He didn't want to share the spotlight so he ended up having to go, but well it's LeBron. The guy is a real leader. Ricky wasn't the cause of Cleveland sucking. Cleveland just sucked period until LeBron came. If Ricky stuck around I'm sure they would have been successful still...

Then there's Boston.. Again they sucked until they made those big trades for KG, and Allen. Not necessarily Ricky's fault for that.

Miami was plagued with injuries... Well the only talent they had was injured which was Shaq and D-Wade. He was injured last season so obviously they wouldn't have done good. They had a healthy Wade this season which resulted making the playoffs.

So I really think that's a bit of an overreaction. Gotta blame poor management on the first two due to lack of actual talent. Injuries on the 3rd.

He's entering a contract year. I think he'll be more motivated.

It's amazing what contract years can do. They work miracles for some players. Ricky was pretty awful this past year but I think he can thrive if the team does better. Hopefully, if other players are good enough to command double teams then I think that can open up things for Ricky. Besides Al, we're pretty thin at the SF position, and whatever he can give us on defense will be much better than what Novak can do on defense if he resigns.

I don't think it matters. I think his body is just worn out

I don't think this is such terrible news. Like many of you pointed out, he's in a contract year, and secondly-- there's NO way it can get worse for him. He's an able contributor, and that's what we need. I just hope he's healthy and happy next season.

Hopefully he gets packaged in a deal for a real backup SG/SF.

From Ralph Lawler's Facebook.

"Ricky Davis? He really had no choice after last season's disaster. The good news is that he's working very hard to avoid a repeat of last season and feels better than at anytime in the past 5 seasons."

I guess it's not bad, since he can't get any worse. ANY contribution from him in the upcoming year is better than what he contributed last year, which was basically 2 or 3 good games during the entire season. I just don't know whether his knee is bad but has/can heal, or whether it's Steve Francis bad.
