Sources: Sterling Nixed Randolph Swap With Griz

Wow... Really now... This actually pisses me off a bit. Darko is a nice backup C in my opinion. At least we know Sterling is willing to spend money now.. But yeah... this would have helped Blake tremendously in terms of development and play time.
The Grizzlies and Clippers agreed in principle to a trade involving Zach Randolph, but Los Angeles owner Donald Sterling nixed the deal.
During Thursday night's NBA Draft, the two clubs worked out a deal centered around Randolph and Darko Milicic. Memphis guard Greg Buckner would have also been part of the trade.
After Sterling stopped the deal, the Grizzlies traded Milicic to the Knicks for Quentin Richardson.

This move would have freed up salary after this upcoming season and give Blake more playing time. We could basically let Darko walk after this season. This isn't the first time our owner has blocked a trade.

Walsh is a legend. Now we can try to pawn off Lee to them again. I don't understand why the Clipshow didn't pull the trigger.
Do they think there is a new emerging market for Zach?
Wasn't he considered the hardest to trade?
Tough stuff but at least you got your man to turn it around.

Again, I think Z-Bo and Griffin could co-exist. The guy that really needs to go is Kaman.

Someone has to go. I think Z-Bo can probably handle backup center duties for a short time. There aren't many true centers in the league anymore. So most backup centers are really just power forwards to begin with so his size isn't a concern..
Out of the 3 Z-Bo should be the hardest to trade.. So with this decent offer it should have gone through, but at the same time this guy is a guaranteed 20-10. You're right about Kaman though. The guy is a total bonehead, and has a longer contract. I just want one of these guys gone.
Even if we're plagued with injuries for another season, that is a horrible reason to keep extra talented players. We'd have to focus on why our players are getting injured rather than piling up talent that will end up getting injured to begin with. It'll continue to cause chemistry issues because you don't have a set rotation every night.

But need need some kind of protection around the rim.. Blake and Zbo are not shot blockers...

People have already been saying this on other messageboards/forums but would DTS really nix a trade that would save him MILLIONS? Something just doesn't seem to add up.

Hopefully Sterling and Co have something else in the works, but even if they do doesn't seem like any offers would have been as good for the Clips as this one.

What I read was that the Griz offered Jaric and Buckner and when the Clips countered with Darko, Memphis balked. If this scenario is true, which I would hope is the case, then DTS had every right to veto the trade. Z-Bo, for all his shortcomings, is still a productive player and it'd make no sense to pay the same money for two end-of-the-bench players. There has been some talk that the market for Randolph has been burgeoning, so maybe we'll get more back in return as the off-season progresses. Hopefully a team like Chicago or Dallas will come to the plate with some young talent / expiring contracts.

I dunno why would Sterling nix that trade. Darko is a solid backup and could help off the bench, while Jaric is also a solid defender. But the offseason isnt over, there might be some better offers out there...or not
