clippers ideal lineup next year

Post#1 » by organix » Thu Jul 2, 2009 5:40 pm

1-5

bdiddy
gordon
thornton
griffin
deandre jordan

this lineup basically plays to our best players strengths letting him lead the offense in a run and gun type setting and will be fun to watch

thoughts?

Eh, maybe not yet. We still have to see how much he has developed over this offseason. Hopefully he has, but if not, I'd rather start a healthy Kaman/Camby.

for sure kaman is gonna get the bulk, as he's the far superior player, but i think dunleavy goes to this small running lineup pretty often when we have to play catch up

So we bring Kaman & Camby off the bench? One of those two have to start.

PG: Baron Davis (35) - Mike Taylor (13)
SG: Eric Gordon (35) - Mardy Collins (8) - Ricky Davis (5)
SF: Al Thornton (28) - Steve Novak (13) - Ricky Davis (7)
PF: Blake Griffin (30) - Marcus Camby (12) - DeAndre Jordan (6)
CE: Chris Kaman (30) - Marcus Camby (13) - DeAndre Jordan (5)

Thats about how I'd expect the current rosters minutes to play out.

There's no way that DeAndre Jordan is ready to start. He did have some nice stat games last year but I don't think we did too well when he scored a lot. He still needs to develop and we'll see where he's at in the summer league and training camp.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

i agree that dj does need some polishing but i don't see him getting only 11 minutes a game as previously posted

but you agree that for a style of offense that best suits baron davis, we don't have a center better then dj to be in though right? bdiddy can pretty much throw the ball anywhere near the basket and he'll go get it

I predict Q or Ricky will start next season. Even when Ricky was sucking completely last year Dunleavy preffered him to thornton for starting. For ball movement and defence I reckon Q will start.

I agree with ejftw pretty much except would flip Q into the starting line up (not full starters mins though).

And you never know, maybe Ricky will find his shot again, remember he did shoot over 40% from 3 the season before coming to the Clippers. You can hope right? :D If he does he will take either Q or Novaks minutes and backup 2.

Al is obviously the weakest link in the starting lineup depending on how Griffin does, but I don't expect Griffin to do poorly. That doesn't mean you trade him though. Al has the advantage that he is a big SF and he is athletic, but he is not very efficient as a scorer and doesn't do much else. If he can improve his scoring efficiency along with his outside shot and also defend well, he's a fine player to had.

Right now he's a below average player in the league, and he didn't really have any production related improvements from his rookie season to last season, but last season also had a lot of injury problems (the team), though one could say the same thing about his rookie season.

Hopefully the stability this season should help him, and he's going to be the 4th option on the floor too, so there's a lot less pressure to score.

The problem with Al is his age. He is going to be 26 later on this year. So realistically if he hasn't developed any kind of an all round game by now he probably never will. He kills ball move and doesn't space the floor due to his lack of range. He also plays awful defence and can disappear from the game.

The good thing about him is his athleticism and creating his own shot. Thats which it seems perfect to bring him off the bench. We should have enough scorers on the court to start with then bring Thornton on with Camby. Thornton is one of the few players that doesn't require a pg on the court to get him a wide open shot. I reckon he is best used as a spark plug of the bench.

I mean he shot ~44% for the season despite not shooting many 3s. For someone that doesn't bring much else but scoring thats not good enough.
