raptor fan here and i was wondering if you guys would have any interest in aquiring calderon from the raptors? he thrives in a half-court system , which is what Mike D is trying to run.
for example a deal of calderon + banks + pick(s) ? for Baron davis
thougths?

People will think I'm crazy but I'd prefer Davis over Calderon any day. However, Gordon and Griffin are a couple of hard nosed players and I want the Clippers to be their team. Calderon will be more likely to defer to Gordon and Griffin than Davis will I have the feeling. If the Clips must take back Banks, I would want a top 10 protected pick from Toronto in the proposed deal.

I don't think you'll see a half-court set anymore, at least not as full on as last year's. We somewhat did have an uptempo system before we traded for Randolph. That's when Dunleavy focked over with a half-assed offense.
I still like Davis and I'm sure many Clipper fans agree that we would like to see what he can do with one more year as a motivated, hungry, healthy leader of this team.

I kind of want to see how things play out with Baron next season. After his (and the whole team's) disappointing performance last season, I'm eager to see how they all respond this year. When he's a at the top of his game, he's one of the upper echelon pgs. Maybe the days of being top 5 are behind him, but it's still possible for him to be a top 10 pg.

If he doesn't play well next season he is going to be more untradeable than he is now.

That's the risky/scary part of having Boom-or-Bust Dizzle, but I honestly think he'll turn it around.

I would do the trade because I feel that the Clippers should rebuild into a great character team full of talented blue collar guys ala Pistons 2004. I think more than anything the Clippers need an identity, and I don't feel that Baron Davis should be a part of that. I think the ideal place for him to land would be the Knicks though.

I was about to say that Knicks would not trade for Davis because of the 2010 plans but iam thinking that they would accept to deal Eddy Curry + Jared Jeffries that expire next season for him.
However, I am not sure if that makes any sense for Clippers.
They could add something else in the deal maybe.

I think that's more of a last resort. It also may depend on whether NYK can find a PG by then. I like Duhon, but apparently he isn't their guy. I wanted the Clippers to get him before Baron.

should wait till the trade deadline, IF Davis still stinking it up it would be wise to find suiters.

Its still truly amazing how baron had one bad season and he is enemy nujmber one enemy. Yet Dumbleavy has had this team terrible for years and he still has supporters. No wonder we are a hated franchise.

I think pragmatism plays a big part in that. We can trade Baron, we can't fire Dunleavy. I don't think he's a great coach by any means but with system players who buy into what he's selling I think his teams can perform fairly well. I still think they need a player coach ala Sam Cassell to really maximize their potential and provide a balance to Dunleavy but Baron is not that player by any means. I think if we could get Calderon straight up and then trade the TPE and a couple of second rounders for Duhon that would be a great one two punch. My ideal would be to find a way to get rid of Baron for a halfway decent wing and then trade Kaman for Hinrich.

I still think we should keep Baron and see what he can do this season.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

Re: Would you welcome Jose calderon?
Well I am a big Baron Davis fan and would hope he will return back to Boom Dizzle rather than Boom Fizzle next year (athough I doubt it will happen).
People say he doesn't care or is just over the hill. I personally do think he cares, its just Dunleavy managed to remove the life from him by his sucky offence and manner. Honestly every time I used to love watching baron play because he enjoyed himself on the court. This year he looked like he would rather be anywhere else but on court. He also seemed to have lost his confidence and mojo which he had at the warriors. The great thing about the warriors when I watched them was all the teammates seemed to get on and even the coach joined in. The clippers in no way looked a team last year. I blame that on the coach and injuries.
With an uptempo system and some positive characters I see him going back to being baron. I see no value in trading him at this moment.
