Report: Clips talking to A.I.

The makeover of the Los Angeles Clippers may include a former scoring champion.

The team is in "very serious" talks with Allen Iverson on a contract, the Los Angeles Times reported on Monday. ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported on Sunday that the Memphis Grizzlies have been pursuing Iverson, but owner Michael Heisley thought the Miami Heat had the inside track. The Charlotte Bobcats were also reported to have interest.

Iverson is a 10-time All-Star who has led the league in scoring four times. He has averaged 23.5 points and 5.4 assists per game over his 13 seasons but posted a career low 17.4 ppg average last season.

A bad back limited Iverson to 57 games last season between the Denver Nuggets and Detroit Pistons. He was also embroiled in controversy when he bristled at coming off the bench for Detroit.

The Clippers may be prepared to offer their full mid-level exception of $5.8 million on a one-year contract. The Grizzlies are reportedly willing to offer something in the same neighborhood, but the Heat are thought to be interested in paying him less than half of that figure.

The Clippers drafted Blake Griffin with the first overall pick in this year's NBA draft. They also traded forward Zach Randolph to the Grizzlies for swingman Quentin Richardson.

Thoughts?

I feel for you Clippers fans.

is this just to sell tickets? what are they thinking? Baron and A.I. has trainwreck written all over it. not trolling, i'd rather A.I. not go to LAC and let Gordon shine. hes got skills.

i dont get the logic behind this at all. i thought you were going young with a nice core of gordon, thornton, griffin, and even jordan, and then this report comes out. is LA big enough for ron artest, kobe, manny ramirez and AI lol

also who would start? you have baron and AI and a promising youngster in EG... is a baron deal on the horizon?
I live rent free in your head. You know who you are :D

Not changing this sig until Magic win a championship. Started 6/26/2015.

I wouldn't mind if he would happily come off the bench in a supporting role to relieve EJ or Diddy, but if he did that then he wouldn't be AI.

I think he needs to swallow his pride and play for a contender. I seriously hope that Dunleavy does not actually sign him.

At least we'd make the playoffs. Is it worth it to sacrifice one year of our young players development for a run at the playoffs?

Z-Bo should be gone by Friday.

AI is to EJ as Z-Bo is to BG.

Quoted for the truth! This is a Answer to a question no is asking much like the Z-Bo trade last year. Why add an over the hill gunner to a young and impressionable team? And I don't mean bringing back B-Diddy. I hope this is a joke.

If we didn't already have EJ, I would be all for this. But it just makes no sense, especially with BD also in the back court.

IM a Wiz fan but to me this makes alot of since for the Clipps and I would actually start AI. Look, people are crazy when they talk about AI coming off the bench. Im not saying that he is a quality starter anymore but Im saying that if you want him coming off the bench then you might as well not take him because he isnt built for that. He's not BG. AI will always suck off the bench no matter how much he plays and it will hurt your team. I think you guys should start him because Gordon can come off the bench and still play well. It also wont stunt his growth because he will play a ton. Between the PG, SG, and SF spots, you have 144 minutes available. AI is a 2 and should start there while Davis is big enough to guard the 2 on D. That will obviously suck but you guys could easily makeup for it on O.

You start Thorton at the 3 and use Gordon as the backup for the backcourt. Thats 4 guys for 144 minutes. Play each guy 36min with Gordon coming off the bench. Isnt that perfect? In the frontcourt you could have the 3 man rotation of Camby, Blake, and Kaman with all playing 32mpg. Jordan can get in where he fits in. Thats a nice small rotation and will keep everyone happy. Its good because its still not major minutes for anyone and with every guy being a weapon, they wont be hard minutes anyways. I think every guy will get there's on that team and you guys could shock everyone next year. Do it and start him

I'm with most of you, I'm not a fan of this idea...given that the idea of an Iverson-B.Davis backcourt is intriguing, it would never, ever work. Firstly, I'd rather have EJ starting-- and everybody knows how Iverson feels about the bench. I still thing that Ivy will continue to be a force in this league-- just not here. God, please, not here.

You know what's sad? I'd kill for the Clippers' youth movement over ours, EVEN without Griffin. However, you throw their management into the mix and i'd have to pass. I'd much rather have a dead average management over the Clips' management, let alone a Walsh management (I know, it's crazy that I consider Walsh above average, right? )

If he does come to the Clippers, I'd be happy to play with that team in NBA 2K10!
