The New Orleans Hornets, in a move to shed some payroll after the recent acquisition of Emeka Okafor, have agreed to trade swingman Rasual Butler to the Los Angeles Clippers for a future second-round pick, according to NBA front-office sources.

The trade is expected to be announced later Wednesday.

Butler is scheduled to earn $3.9 million next season. With the Clippers looking for an extra shooter and depth at both shooting guard and small forward, sources said the team was amenable to absorbing the final year of Butler's contract, which will save New Orleans nearly $8 million when factoring in the luxury-tax implications.

I like it. Gives us depth at the SG/SF spot, and possibly a player to start over Thornton? Great move, and less PT for Ricky D!

I like the move, we finally got a swing man and another veteran to add to this team. We need shooters and Butler should be able to add to that as well.
I've been an LA Clipper fan since 1998 and that will never change. I hate our new logo and jerseys!

I think this moves definitely assures us that we will NOT sign Iverson as well.

Strong move gives the team depth and also someone to challenge Thorton. We nned to close the deal with Sessions and lock-up the offseason. We either need to trade Telfair and get Session or keep Telfair.

We finally found a reliable SG/SF. Thornton better be worried.

I like the move. I know there are quite a few Clips fans who have been interested in him. He definitely adds to our depth on the wing. He has been a starter on playoff team. He has a nice touch from the perimeter. He has decent size at 6'7, and should be a solid rotational player for us. I'm hoping that our other wings bounce back and have good seasons, but it's even better if we don't have to rely on them. I am assuming that we used part of the TPE to get him. We're now at 14 (if you include Novak).

Dude, we got Rasual AND cash for a conditional 2nd rounder in 2016! Basically another free look at a player who can help us and we gave up virtually nothing. I love it.

I like it. I'm not too fond of him due to remembering some past instances, but he's a quality player. Dunleavy has done well as a GM for 2 straight off seasons. Just a shame he doesn't stick with that role and let someone else coach.

Hopefully in 2011 that'll happen.

This is a great trade for us. We get depth at SF and it takes alot of pressure off of al, so i like it. good job dunleavy.

Love this move. Butler can spend time at both the 2 and the 3, both areas that we needed some depth. I always used to see him nail clutch shots against teams that I liked, and would be like "wtf man! who is this guy?". Now he's playing for us!

If this would be our last move, I'd be satisfied. If we can somehow get Sessions while at the same time, dump Telfair, it would be an awesome off-season.
