Five shooting guards to watch for 2009-10

After putting together the modified Top-50 list of players from ‘08-09, I had about 50 leftovers who just missed the cut. And from that, there could’ve been a whole sub-category titled “Wait ‘Til Next Year.”

Yesterday it was the centers: Now here are five two-guards who look the most ready to crack the 2010 Top-10 with their performances next season:

Eric Gordon — Overlooked in Rookie of the Year talk, Gordon (16.1 ppg) has been a beast this summer, spending extensive time working out with Kobe and D-Wade, and attending the Team USA mini-camp in July. Having Blake Griffin around only makes EJ’s life easier, and if Baron Davis delivers on his promise to be more of a leader in L.A., Gordon will be one of the main benefactors.

I knew that he was supposed to work out with Kobe, but I didn't know he was working out with Wade as well. That's a nice surprise. Working out with the 2 best shooting guards in the game should definitely help him take his game to another level. You could see some changes in his play during summer league, but even off the court, you can see that he's becoming more comfortable and confident in his interviews. As people tune in to watch Blake, they'll also get a better look at Gordon as well (the ones who were sleeping on him last year).

Man, Gordon keeps impressing me more and more. It's great that he got to work out with not only Kobe, but Wade as well. No one better to learn from but the best. I'm looking forward to Gordon beasting this season. I'm thinking he might be in the 18-20 ppg range.

That was great to see Eric get some attention. I'm really looking forward to seeing him play this year as I think Eric will have a tremendous year. We just got a glimpse of how good he is; I mean , he was about the 4th option on offense behind Zach, Thornton, Baron/Kaman-----and that was as a rookie. Look for EJ to put up 21ppg this year because Baron will feel a lot more confident giving Eric more scoring opportunities. He's firmly entrenched as a starter going into camp, so he'll be real comfortable as he knows he's one of the conerstones of the franchise. Yeah, Eric was 2nd team all-rookie team, but he'll definitely be 1st rwan all-soph.

EJ is a great blessing to this team.
I think we all appreciated that last year (when there wasn't a whole lot more to appreciate), even if the general NBA public has been slow to catch on.
And I can see that we are likely to appreciate it even more this year, given the way he has spent his summer. Big props to him.
There are some really exciting things to look forward to this season in Clipperdom, and EJ is surely one of them.

I think we all can say that we can't wait to see the EG/BG pick and roll this season.
