Josh Freeman to Bucs

The Bucs drafted QB Josh Freeman with the 17th pick. They traded the 19th pick and a 6th rounder to get him. I personally don't like the pick, IMO they should have took Peria Jerry, Randy Ayers, or possibly Jeremy Maclin with the pick.

I couldn't agree more.
Freemen is at best a project, and with the Bucs being so depleted talent wise everywhere else drafting a non impacting player now reeks of massive rebuild.
This team might be lucky to be just 4-12......

Josh Freeman is going to be a bust or going to be a really good football player. He has all of the physical skills but whether he can combine that with good decisions and then good consistency is undecided.
I was kind of hoping since crabtree kind of dropped if we could trade up and get him or Randy Aires.

He has all the tools to be a franchise QB - lets hope he develops.

So did Ryan Leaf, Jason Campbell, Joey Harrington, David Klingler, and dozens of others in the last 20 years.
The Bucs need way more than a rookie QB that lacks NFL fundamentals at this time.

I agree. I was sad to see the Bucs associated with Freeman so consistently leading up to the draft and just hoped that it was all smoke... It wasn't, and not only that, they traded up because they got spooked that the Broncos may take their man. I suppose, if you have your "franchise quarterback" picked out, you give up a 6th round pick to make sure you get him.
craig, one good thing though... other than Campbell, all of those guys were taken significantly higher in the draft than Freeman. Which says to me that you don't find QBs this late with "all of the right tools". Not saying he's the right guy, I'm just glad we didn't trade up and spend a 5th overall pick on him (he was projected that high at one point).

Let's see...
Signed Byron Leftwich. Kept Luke McCown. Kept Josh Johnson. Drafted Josh Freeman.
Looks like 2 backup QBs and two long-term projects manning the helm.
I wonder who they'll cut, because there's no way they can keep 4. Obviously Freeman sticks but from what I gather they're loathe to play him before 2010. Johnson has lots of promise but he's still got a lot to learn and his arm isn't as good as advertised. McCown has a cannon but not even he knows where the ball is going, though he does bring leadership and toughness to the table. Leftwich is a former starter on a one-year deal looking to save his career.
I'm thinking Leftwich either wins the job or gets the axe.

This team is a potential mess.
If there is a plan, one can't tell what it is.
Might as well bring back the cream sickle orange jerseys for a few years.
