Week 1 @Browns

The defense looks amazing so far. Only week one so I'm not going to knee jerk. Also Watson looked really bad. But man this defense can:

A. Get tons of pressure

B. Blanket the WRs

Would be nice to see our defense carry us, and not to open this can of worms, but had the defense shown up vs GB we would have won despite the offense sucking. We put up enough points to.

I’m pressure win. I thought the two rookie OL played well. Guyton had a couple problems with Myles Garrett but then who wouldn’t. Overall he did well against Garrett. Dak’s head is still attached so overall great game.

Any update on Ferguson yet? The entire receiving corps should be pretty good this season. I’m still worried about the RB’s though.

I was really happy to see how the defense played under Zimmer. They signed a couple of huge DT’s that have really helped the run defense. I thought the LB’s played extremely well too. Also the rookie CB (Carson) that’s filling in for Bland looks like he can really play too. He HAS to catch the ball though when it hits him in the hands. He dropped 2 picks yesterday.

Supposedly Ferguson had an x-ray that turned up negative but is awaiting an MRI. Fingers crossed.

I still think Tyler Smith should play LT. I'll never understand why he isn't.

Dalvin Cook being on the practice squad is concerning.

Our CBs are rock stars, we've been blessed with superior CB drafting as of late. Whoever is influencing those picks needs a raise. Watson had NO WHERE to throw and Amari is one of the best route runners in the league.

Good to hear. I want to see Schoon and Luepke get some touches but Ferguson is their second best pass catcher so I hope he gets back sooner rather than later.

So much speed… and Overshown was a terror. Teams are going to have to respect that dude out there - and Micah will benefit. Zim must be enjoying this. He has lots of toys and he’s gonna play with them.

Absolutely, he was amazing.

I think he might be similar to a Gilmore situation. We got him at the very tail end of his career where he has one more prime year left.

Where was Mazi Smith though? I didn't really notice him, and his stat sheet is non-existent. But that said, his role on the team isn't really about stats or getting noticed. More about disrupting the middle. So maybe he did his job but it's really hard to tell.

The 2 fat guys they brought in a week and a half ago outshined Mazi. Sad but true. I guess you can’t hit on every draft pick.

That sucks. It would have been really nice to have hit on Mazi. But I guess at least that gives the salary cap one year to catch up to what Dak/Lamb/Parsons will take from it.

If we hit on everyone we can't afford to keep them.

Although now it's looking like Overshown could possibly be in line for what could have been Mazi's pay day.

This blurb from the Morning news…

The Browns’ run game was stagnant. Ford rushed for 44 yards on 12 carries averaging 3.7 per attempt. Watson’s average of 7.8 is high but a majority of that is him running away from defenders.

This was one of those complete performances where it was difficult to find anything wrong.

Defensive tackles Mazi Smith and Osa Odighizuwa played physical up front allowing the linebackers to have freedom to make plays through running lanes.

Mazi still has time to turn it around but he needs to hurry. Zimmer is the right DC for him though.

Overshown definitely looked good. The guy I was impressed with is the rookie DB Caelen Carson. They picked in him A LOT and he held his own. I saw Brian Baldinger do a breakdown of his game against Cleveland. A lot of people are saying the Cowboys may have found another elite CB. Whoever is scouting DB’s and OL needs a serious raise.

I guess no news (or little news) on Mazi is an improvement over what we’ve been hearing. Like I said he does still have time to turn it around.

I thought Zeke looked pretty spry out there on Sunday. He made a couple of excellent blocks (besides that one). Obviously I don’t expect him to play like that for all 17 games but for game 1 he looked good.

At some point Dalvin Cook will play too and they will actually have a fairly decent RB corps. I expect Zeke will fade as the season goes on though. I also think Cook will have a couple of great games and look rejuvenated. He will get injured though and that will be all we see from him. By the end of the season I expect RICO Dowdle will be the starting RB.

I think that yes, odds are that one of Zeke or Cook will not make it the whole season. I do think that one of the two probably will though, and then split with Dowdle.

As long as Zeke and Cook are splitting the load, they should be able to extend each other's energy level though.

I still think the future star RB for this team is still in college (Ohio St).
