Coaching rumors & info

Post#1 » by Schmoopy1000 » Tue Jan 13, 2015 3:50 am

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Browns and Jaguars have requested to interview Cowboys OC/OL coach Bill Callahan for their offensive-coordinator vacancies.
Callahan didn't run the Dallas offense despite his title as OC; passing-game coordinator Scott Linehan was calling the shots. The Browns tried to hire Callahan last offseason, but were blocked by the Cowboys. Callahan is now a coaching free agent. He and Browns coach Mike Pettine are close friends.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Browns have requested to interview Cowboys coaches Scott Linehan and Bill Callahan for their offensive-coordinator vacancy.
Both coaches are technically free agents, so a request isn't needed here. But we can expect the Cowboys to do everything in their power to retain at least Linehan after the offense took off under his guiding hand in 2014. Linehan had the title of passing-game coordinator. Callahan, the team's official "OC," handled offensive-line duties. The Browns tried to hire Callahan last offseason.

There are conflicting reports on whether Rod Marinelli will be leaving the Cowboys to join Tampa Bay.
Coach Jason Garrett stated on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, "He's done a great job coordinating our defense this year. We have every intention of keeping Rod Marinelli in his current role as defensive coordinator." The Cowboys would like to retain Marinelli if possible, but his contract is up and he is loyal to Lovie Smith. We should know his decision in the coming days.

I thought for sure Rod was gone according to reports but then today Stephen Jones said he thought Rod was staying.

I've said for months Rod was going. He wanted to go last year. I think both he and Callahan made up their minds before this season that it was their last in Dallas. I know most of you are going to say they don't care if Callahan goes or not, but I think he will go and I think it is going to hurt. Garrett never allowed him to be OC. He had to run Garrett's offense and Garrett was totally in control of the game planning. It wasn't until this year that Garrett finally yielded. Most importantly every tinme you hear how good our OL is, remember Callahan is the man pulling the strings there.

So happy and very surprised about Marinelli. This team would not be the same without him

Plus it should end Arlington's talk about Schwartz.

You have to think that Rod did have plans to go elsewhere but when the season was over he saw some real potential with this team and said to himself, "why am I leaving"

I like that story line so i'm going with it.

Trust me you are not alone with that thought. I wonder if some of our FA's will give a little home discount if the whole coaching staff returns?

Dallas Cowboys, Scott Linehan strike three-year deal. Linehan's pact matches the three-year contract the Cowboys furnished defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli, assuring that both coaches will remain hitched to Jason Garrett well into the future.

Good News for the home team.

In other news Callahan is now the enemy and I hope he fails.

Callahan is going to do just fine with the Redskins. He's a solid offensive line coach. He'll make them a bit better. He played an underrated role in how well the Cowboys line developed. That was very pivotal to the overall success of the team. Like him or not, he's a loss for Dallas.
