in terms of being most valuable to his team... i'd say chase utley... but he did miss a few games so i'm just gonna have to go with Matt Holliday, and he could win it especially w/ the extra publicity towards him at the HR Derby

Not even ONE mention of Brandon Phillips. I completely understand that he probably has no shot at this award simply because his team blows. But I would just like to point his numbers so the Reds players are not forgotten because we basically have no publicity and its a shame with players like Phillips and Harang(15-4).

Here is Phillips stat-line(1 HR away from a 30-30 season). I compared his numbers to 2B in the NL just to prove a point that he deserves some attention.

142 Games(2nd), 590 ABs(1st), 100 runs(2nd), 170 hits(2nd), 6 triples(3rd), 29 HR(T-1st), 85 RBIs(2nd), 30 SB(T-1st), .288 AVG(6th), .497 SLG(3rd), .830 OPS(4th).

He also has had a gold-glove caliber season at 2b while hitting well. I should mention he was hitting in 4th in the batting order in the last month-2 months.

I think you forgot to mention Phillips' .336 OBP.

Yes, well every player does have his flaws but the numbers are there and there is no way you can deny them.

Problem with Phillips is that his numbers does not blow any of the other guys' out the water and the other guys have a shot at making the playoffs.

The problem with Phillips is his horrible OBP. The last time there was an MVP with a OBP lower than .350 was in 1987 when Andre Dawson somehow won it.

:D

Edit: And just for the record, Jimmy Rollins, another one of the major MVP candidates has a OBP of .347, only 11 points higher than Brandon Phillips.

A person with a .840 OPS in this era does not deserve to be in consideration for MVP, especially when his team sucks

Not even close. He's going to be edged in the Cy Young as well, Peavy locked it up.

runs and rbis are a product of your team... so they can be inflated or deflated.

Fielder RISP: .265/.419/.504
Jones RISP: .307/.424/.591

see, jones is super"clutch" !!!!
