Jerry would fight it tooth and nail but if the Dallas mayor is successful in his pitch to bring another NFL team to Dallas I really think that team would have a very solid fan base. There are a lot of people in Dallas that feel the same way BJJ does and have completely written off the Cowboys because of Jerry. Plus the mayors plan is for the team to have a stadium actually within the Dallas city limits. The question is would it be a new franchise or would an existing team move to Dallas, if so which team?
?s=46&t=UtjN6B9wrA1ybBblyXjlfg
If I lived in Dallas (instead of 60 miles north) and my mayor was advocating updating Fair park and using the Cotton Bowl to lure another team or razing the old Convention Center for a new arena to lure another franchise or building a baseball park to lure another MLB team here instead of simple things that benefit the city like fixing roads that are a complete mess, I think I'd be looking for a new mayor. Because Eric Johnson is an idiot.
That's kind of the point of bringing in a new team though, to flood the area with money and bring wealth and prosperity.
I'll say this, if they put a new stadium at or around South Dallas it would just speed up the gentrification that is already happening. South Dallas area is a scary place and for the most part police and the law know it's a drug haven and they just allow it to happen for the most part. But if a stadium came to that area it would force them to crack down on it right away. Minorities would be displaced but that is already happening.

Mr B wrote:You underestimate the hatred most Dallas sports fans have for Jerry Jones. Also they would not be playing in the Cotton Bowl. There is a huge plot of land in the Southern Sector of Dallas near the Trinity River (close to the bridge) where they would build the new stadium. At least that’s what was proposed before the old Dallas sea hag, I mean mayor Laura Miller, vetoed the vote saying Dallas doesn’t need any sports teams and if it were up to her we wouldn’t have any pro sports teams. A new stadium there would mean tons of jobs and it would mean that area around the stadium would be cleaned up immensely. As a citizen of the city of Dallas I personally would love to see that.
I completely understand the hatred for Jerry - I'm at the front of that line. But, you overestimate the level of support for a new team in this region. The Cowboys have already priced themselves to a level of revenue that essentially cuts someone like me out of attending a game (which I used to do with regularity back in the Texas Stadium days). A new team will do the same although the presence of mass transit would mitigate some of the game day costs. The NFL would NEVER agree to a second team here for that very reason alone. Same with MLB & baseball. See the Rangers attendance this season?
Dallas had their chance at the Cowboys. And you know exactly what happened. The Sea Hag killed it.

Actually, the exact opposite occurs. The NFL brand is diluted with 2 teams within 15 miles of each other. Once again - the NFL would NEVER agree to that.

As Mr. B noted - Dallas had the chance. Jerry coveted that area on the other side of the Trinity SW of where Reunion used to be. It would have been a PERFECT location for a stadium and would have spurred the exact "gentrification" you speak of years ago. But Laura Miller decided she would rather rebuild the Cotton Bowl and have Jerry there. He listened politely then went straight to Arlington. And who blames him for that? I sure as hell don't.
I despise Jerry as much as anyone. As I've been saying for over 20 years - he's going to die trying to convince the world that he can win a Super Bowl without the influence of Jimmy Johnson. And so am I.

Yeah I disagree. There is no shortage of NFL fans in Dallas and I feel positive that both stadiums would sell out every Sunday. Also a new stadium goes far beyond an NFL team it would be used for many things. And I think the Cowboys could use some diluting if anyway. Ticket prices are absurd and half the stadium is out of towners who shell out huge money for the one chance to see their team while in town. It's become unattainable for regular Cowboy fans.

Re: Jerry... Jerry... Jerry...
Jerry has already won a Super Bowl without Jimmy btw.
I won't say I am a fan of Jerry I get the complaints. But I also don't "hate" Jerry that is a strong word. When I try to be objective about it overall I have really liked their drafting over the last decade, I am mostly pleased with the players they select with a few exceptions like Mo Claiborne and Taco. And I also like that we have an owner who cares about the team, I think Dallas fans take that for granted because Cuban also cares deeply and Dallas doesn't really know what it feels like to have an owner who is completely uninvolved. It's not good.
But I can see the failures Jerry has brought too and honestly I feel like this current offseason was one of their biggest if not THE biggest. Cooper and Collins walking was just horrible. We traded a 1st for Cooper just to let him walk? I don't get it.
All in all I am tired of Jerry Jones being the center of so many conversations with fans. It's just pointless venting. And it is time for Dallas fans to let go. He is the owner and there is nothing anyone can do about it. No amount of fan complaining can change it. And the subject is a beating a dead horse and then another dead horse. Over and over and over.

Those are exact reasons why I believe a 2nd team would succeed. The new team wouldn’t have the “clout” that the Cowboys have. The reason they can price out the average fan is because they can. Like you said, there is never an under abundance of fans willing to pay Jerry’s fees. A 2nd team could easily under cut Jerry’s prices and average fans could afford (probably still not very often but maybe once or twice a season) to go to games again. Then actually being in Dallas, I have no doubt they could fill a stadium every week. Not to mention the fans that would love to stick it to Jerry by helping to support his competition.

First, Jerry won with the team Jimmy built. Sure Jerry gets the credit for writing the checks but the last 25+ years proves he had zero to do with building the actual team on the field.
Add Barbie Crapenter to the lists of busts they’ve drafted in the first round. You could also add the year they traded out of the 1st round to in order to draft all special teamers.
And again, we all know Jerry is never going to sell the team. After he dies Stephen will be the face, and when he’s gone Spaulding likely takes over. All the more reason for Dallas to get a 2nd team. Let Jerry continue to drive a once proud franchise into the dirt while a new franchise can be applauded.

Re: Jerry... Jerry... Jerry...
I realize that most fans view the 95' team as Jimmy's team but that team needed both Larry Allen (drafted by Jerry) and Deion Sanders (signed by Jerry).
It's also two years removed from Jimmy. No coach should be credited with anything in the NFL being removed for 2 whole seasons. Is this current roster Jason Garrett's team?
Jerry shouldn't have to prove that he can win without Jimmy because he literally did.

If there is a new franchise I also think it is safe to say they wouldn't start playing while Jerry is still around. That stuff takes time and years of planning.
Jerry is 79, I seriously doubt he has another 5 years in him. He is turning it over to Stephen because he is ready to step out.

Besides - it’s been tried before. With zero success. Shame is that if this area would have actually supported two teams, we’d have a Super Bowl team here right now along with a potential HoF QB in our midst who actually played HS football a few hours east of here.

That is just phucking bull chit shot on your part. And this is just another problem you young generation Cowboy fans have with all this. Jimmy, and I mean Jimmy traded Hershall Walker to Minnesota for 5 draft picks and then manouvered another 53 trades, etc., and put together the best Cowboy team in history. Perhaps maybe the best team ever in the NFL, IMHO. There is no doubt in my mind if Jerry wouldn't have fired Jimmy, that team would have won more than 3 Super Bowls in 4 years. That team was so loaded just about any high school coach could have come in and won a super bowl over Switzer. So loaded, we really didn't need Sanders to win the 3ird super bowl. Jerry just wanted to keep the 49ers from having him and knocking them down a couple pegs as a threat. We would have been better off not signing Sanders, Keeping ourselves out of salary cap hell and preventing Larry Allen from going to SF to finish out his HOF career. Aikman, Emmit, Irvin, the OL, Haley, Lett, etc., were so good, and the team was so deep, was primed to win another 2-3 super bowls. Once Jerry put his hands on everything, it starting to unravel and fall apart, and has only gotten worse over the years after.
John Gruden got credit for winning a super bowl for Tampa but we really know the person responsible for putting that team together. Same exact thing with Switzer. Just along for the ride. He was a total bafoon.
You will never GET IT. Because you were not around when this franchise was born in 1960. You were not around to see Landry start out with nothing his first year, he wasn't even allowed a draft his first year. But damn it within 4 years of starting out with absolutely nothing Landry got us to .500 withing 4 years of rebuilding and then we went on a 20 year run like no other till the 2001 Patriots started their run. 2 years later we were in out first NFL Championship game and were a top 5 teams for the next 20 years. We set the standard when it came to drafting, scouting, player development stadiums, marketing, Culture, front office, LEADERSHIP, etc., to the extent that everyone fear us to the point everyone wanted to copy what we were doing. Nobody in the NFL is copying anything we do now. As a matter of fact many fans and regions of the country don't think we should be America's team anymore with the performance of Jerry (since giving Jimmy the boot), his hand picked coaches and all his dumb azz loyal young fans that have no clue what it takes to be top dog anymore. You guys don't understood what it took to become America's team because it was our generation that built it. We built it, we earned it, it means something to us, or it used to. All guys like you and Jerry have done the past 27 years is jizz all over our once proud and traditional franchise that we built for YOU.

Re: Jerry... Jerry... Jerry...
Herschel Walker was the center piece to it all and not to knock Jimmy, the trade was monumental on his part and masterful, but looking through things objectively he was lucky to have that happen. There was no Herschel Walker trade of Jimmy in Miami, so there was no dynasty for Jimmy in Miami.
You're looking at things through a lens of lack. You're furious at Jerry because he "could have" won 4 rings instead of 3. Think about that. Jerry buys the team in 89 with Walker on the roster. Fires Landry and brings in his pal Jimmy and the team goes on to win 3 rings. NONE OF THAT could have been possible without Jerry. If Jerry never buys the team in all likeliness we have less rings than we do currently. But you can't forgive the one that might have gotten away in 94.

Re: Jerry... Jerry... Jerry...
I'm not even sure why it is assumed that Jimmy would have beaten the 49ers in the post season in 95 NFC Championship game.
Aikman threw 3 INTs.
1 to Deion and 2 to Eric Davis because Troy didn't want to throw at Deion.
How would Jimmy have changed that?

Re: Jerry... Jerry... Jerry...
How much do NFL tickets cost by team?
Unsurprisingly, the Buccaneers ($757.26) have the highest average ticket price for any NFL team in 2022. That makes sense given that Tom Brady is in what could be his last NFL season, so fans are willing to pay a premium to see him play once again.
Beyond the Bucs, only three other teams have tickets that cost an average of more than $600. They are the Cowboys ($690), the Raiders ($674) and the Patriots ($643).
The Lions have the NFL's cheapest ticket, as their games cost, on average, about $224. The Jaguars ($258), Jets ($265), Cardinals ($276) and Browns ($282) are the league's other four teams that have an average ticket cost of under $300.

This doesn't even tell the whole story as the only ticket's in Cowboy's stadium that are on the cheaper end are the top row seats which are too high to even see the field. Anyone sitting up there just ends up watching the big screen.

No one can see the ball from up there. You can't figure out what's happening. You're forced to watch a big TV. Pointless.
The only seats worth sitting in are below that top level, and I am sure the average price of those seats would rank #1 overall. A family of 4 attending is looking at spending thousands of dollars which is absurd. You can fly the whole family to Cancun and have a beach vacation for that price. It isn't practical at all.

Watching a Football game is so much better on television. Especially an NFL game. Splurging on tickets is a complete waste imo. The only exception would be a bigtime college atmosphere. A Texas/Alabama type matchup.
Why would I pay a fortune on tickets? When I can get the best view on my big screen from home.
