I'm fine with a LB as long as it's Edmonds or Smith. I just have a feeling they're getting a WR tho.

I agree with those two LB’s. They’re the only two that fit the Cowboys scheme.

I also agree that WR will likely be the pick though. If Ridley is off the board DJ Moore is the name I’ve been hearing a lot of the last couple of days. He’s 5’11” 215 lbs. is an excellent route runner and has excellent hands. Based on the video I’m posting he seems to be able to play inside or outside and is very good in the open field.

I'm hearing the same chatter about Moore. But - I'm hearing it as a 2nd round pick. I read that he's got some Steve Smith in him which jazzes me a little bit. But I also read that 5'11" might be generous and he is basically a possession guy - not a down field burner.

Or - Switzer...

The only WR I would even consider moving up for if the situation dictates it is Ridley. If teams lose their minds and take all the QB's early, then a good WR will fall to 19. The "X" factor for me in all this is Vea.

By the way - just heard that the Honey Badger was released. I wonder...

Found a mock draft that has the boys picking Christian Kirk out of Texas A&M. We might have to trade up for Ridley.

I'd take Courtland Sutton over Kirk. I think Sutton will be a stud in the NFL. I've watched a lot of him the last couple of years while following another SMU kid from this area (DE Justin Lawler - my wife worked with his step mom). Sutton has all the tools... runs great routes... can go deep and is fearless going for the ball. I love the dude.

Word around here in Chicago that Bears might scoop him up. However, they might pass now that they added Robinson and Gabriel.

I do, but don't understand the WR with our first pick. Stephen Jones just said a couple months ago the main focus would be on defense this year. You guys in here wanting a WR now are acting like Jerry.

If Vea is gone, I'm not reaching for a DT. I'm waiting until the 2nd round. There will be plenty of quality available then. WR is the prime talent at 15-19.

This isn't about "wanting" a WR. This is about filling a need. We need a DT, a LB, a CB and a WR... and reaching for anyone (like the DT's I mentioned earlier) is what Jerry used to do... and what drove us nuts.

I don't disagree with anything you just said at all Otis, but Stephen did say they would go hard on defense in this year's draft. I know you know he said that. Of course, you know me and defense and how I've been crabbing about it for what, 7 years now. I was hoping this was the time.
Maybe with an all out effort to put a tremendous defense on the field this year we can afford to stomach Dez one more year so we don't have to take such a high cap year after this upcoming season. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong. :blank:

Filling gaps on defense will be easier in the later round rather than filling it up at receiver, imo. Especially if we add a couple of pieces in FA. Still think Suh has Dallas written all over him.

I don't think we have enough cap space to go the free agency route. I'd like to remain a bit more patient and continue to draft well and stay young. Every time we get into free agency with Jerry calling the shots, we've been set back years due to his bad choices and contracts. I want Stephen and the coaches to finish the defense as much as they can in this draft. Suh would be such a bad move for us. Thank the lord we can't afford him anyway.

Until we pay Zack Martin, I don't see us signing anyone.

Top priority. Unfortunately, it all depends where Dez stands first. Pay cut or he's out is what's probably being discussed right now.

Along with reworking Frederick's contract... as well as knowing what they will do with Zack's to lessen his cap impact... Dez is significant.

If we could get Ridley without having to trade, that would be great but i see the Ravens taking him.

That would mean they would draft Moore over Ridley based on speed. Also, i looked more in depth. No way Barkley drops to 5.

Trust me I see exactly where you’re coming from. If LB Tremaine Edmunds falls to 19 (doubtful) or if LB Roquan Smith falls to 19 either one HAS to be the guy. Either would be great picks at 19.

I think all of us here would love Vita Vea but they will never do that. I was also actually getting excited about Maurice Hurst until the Combine. I don’t want them to take another player in the secondary, at least not 1st.

You have to look at the board too and see who the best players are that will be available to you. Also can’t rule out team need. When you factor all that in WR might be the best option. If Ridley falls to 15 I would move up to get him. The kid is a stud WR, a star. He’s absolutely worth taking in the 1st round. Also if they drafted him and he lives up to the hype, it guarantees that Dez is gone if getting paid A LOT less. Right now the Cowboys don’t have a lot of leverage against Dez.

If Ridley falls to us at 19, draft would already be a success.
