Great steal for the Bengals. He was predicted to go between 22-38. We talked about him a few times the past few weeks. I heard Bill Poilian say he was the biggest steal of the draft as far as DT's go. I wish we could have gotten though. The one pick I do like is this kid out of Oklahoma, Trapper.

Charlie Casserly was saying that the reason Billings fell was because he's a 2 down DT only.

Rapapprt said more than a few teams dropped him for that reason. Hope the kid proves all of them wrong.

Reading the morning fish wrap, it appears the Cowboys were ready to take Cook at #101. Oakland jumped up and grabbed him.

As a closet Raiders fan, I say "Thanks Oakland!"

I wouldn't have mind if we drafted Cook. I still think he has potential to be as good as Derek Carr or Andy Dalton, or maybe even AJ McCarron. His completion percentage is what I didn't like about him. Well that and the douche factor. I also heard a rumor though that he may have dropped because of his rumored sexual orientation.

I'm not too much in favor of Dak Prescott. Based on what I've been reading Jerry is pretty upset with not being able to trade up for Lynch. I think if Lynch has any kind of success next year Jerry is going to go hard after a 1st round QB next draft.

Yeah - that was another bullet point in the DMN. Maybe he should have sweetened the pot with those two 6th rounders he wasted on a RB & TE.

That's my only complaint about the Cowboys 2016 draft. What the hell was that! If you are taking flyers on guys there, take them where you need help - On Defense!

They actually couldn't trade those 6th rounders because they were comp picks. I can understand with wanting to go defense though. Have you seen any videos of the RB though? Also apparently he's really good at coverage on ST. I don't mind taking the flyer in the TE either. He's huge and is really athletic. I mean Antonio Gates never played college FB and went undrafted. Now he's a sure fire HOF. If the kid turns out half as good as Gates it would be an absolute steal in the 6th round.

Good catch on the non-tradable picks and bad on me for missing that. The only defense on the TE from where I sit is that if he's better than Escobar, then I'll accept that as improvement. I just don't know where we fit a RB even with McFadden leaving (I agree with you completely that he won't make final 53) unless (as you also have maintained) Dunbar is gone too.

Yea Escobar hasn't really shown crap since he's been here. I tend to give TE's a little break though because it's hard for them to succeed here as long as Witten is still playing. He's so damn good at everything that it's almost impossible to take him off the field. I'm not sure how much time he has left though. I could be wrong but I believe this is a contract year for him. The team will have a decision to make. How much money does he want and how much are they willing to pay him. Stephen has shown especially this off season that he will not over pay for a FA. If Witten is willing to take a deal for what they have determined his value to be then he continues to start here. If he demands more (hard to see that) then I think they let him walk.

But back to the point, if the new TE is at least as good as Escobar then it was a good late 6th round pick.

TE is the only weak link on the offense now. Now that we have Elliot, personally I would love to go single TE and use more full back formations. Pound the ball more and you have an extra blocker for Romo.

I agree, I'd like to see them running out of the I-Formation more. I'm not sure they will though unfortunately. If anything they will motion a TE to block. Garrett has used that since he's been here. The good think is that Ohio St. ran out of the shotgun almost exclusively and they run a zone blocking scheme. Dallas also does both, so Zeke should still be extremely successful without a FB.

Watch this video. This is what he will be doing for the Cowboys. The running game is going to be dominant again.

I believe those comp picks we had and couldn't deal or manover with is the reason why we didn't get Lynch.

I only brought it up as I checked out a few sites to see what other Cowboy fans were saying. Most are just as shocked as we were. Like us, they mostly wanted defense and Ramsey was their favored choice.

It's been a mixed bag from what I've read and listened to. Pretty much a 50/50 split. Plenty of legitimate arguments from both sides. I'm just glad they didn't capitulate and take Spence in the 2nd. That dude is trouble. Bottom line is the success of this draft will be determined by Smith. Fairly or unfairly. So we wait and see.

I'm on a couple other boards too and I agree, it seems to be 50/50. There are some really passionate arguments for both sides. I don't know if y'all live in the Dallas area but there are 3 sports radio station here. I only listed to two of them though (The Ticket and The Fan) and even they were split. The Ticket thinks Elliott was a horrible pick (not a horrible player just horrible pick). Just like BJJ they wanted Ramsey and think this team is pretty much doomed. The guys on the Fan have been like me and think it was the right pick because Ramsey wouldn't have been as successful in Dallas as Elliott will be.

I live an hour north of Dallas and am pretty much a P1 from Day 1 (BJJ won't get that but Mr. B clearly will). But I do flip over to the Fan occasionally. So yeah - that's where my observations come from although even the DMN has been split. I guess the take away is that if its pretty much an even split then you can't go wrong either way with the pick. I think everyone agreed too that the draft "grade" depends on Smith.

Well, I live in Maine and am surrounded by tons of Patsy and Giant fans. We get Cowboy news up here after local teams get first dibbs. that's why forum are important to me. Not too many Cowboys fans in this neck of the woods. I can't repeat some of the comments I get here regarding our Cowboys. Nevertheless, I fight tooth and nail with them when I get the chance. Not in a physical sense of course.

Best friend in the USAF (RIP) was from Rangeley. Gal he went to school with and I remain friends. One day I hope to get up there. Looks like a wonderful place. Of course I will be in full Cowboys regalia. Because - that's the way it should be.

If you ever want to listen to the local Dallas radio stations the The Fan can be streamed on the Radio App and The Ticket can be streamed on iHeart Radio. I get the impression that The Ticket would be more your style.

The Dallas Cowboys app also has some good streaming.

Return to Dallas Cowboys
