Cowboys have placed a 2nd round tender on G Ron Leary at price of $2.553 million. Move was expected.

This exactly what I was hoping they would do with Leary. He's good enough to start on pretty much any team in the league. If another team wants him the Dallas will be getting back a 2nd round pick for losing him. If no one signs him then Dallas gets to keep some very quality depth on the OL for a very reasonable price.

A win-win for us. I'm trusting this was a Stephen/Will/Jason move. Not a Jerry move.

Also of note - the lower tender to Heath. He's my personal punching bag for his erratic play at safety... but he excels on special teams. A cheap alternative there all in all... and with our special teams, we need guys like him.

Looks like the 2 guys I wanted in free agency is not looking so good. Jefferies is out of the question for sure, after being franchised. Miami just redid Suh's contract and freed up 18 million. Wonder if they will be using any of that for Lamar Miller. Dolphins look they are really getting aggressive. But I have also heard Miami is very serious about going with Ajayi, the rookie they drafted last year. So Miller just may still be in play but I'm not sure what he is looking for regarding $$$$$$$$. Dolphins owner is on record, recently stating that if the Dolphins don't make the playoffs next year, another house cleaning will take place.

Well - Kiko Alonzo should help that playoff push...

After what happened yesterday, I'm starting to feel better about this. Dolphins going pretty much all out so far to retool their defense with the 2 players they acquired from the Egals. I just heard the Dolphins are going with Ajayi in their backfield. MR. B. We just might have a decent shot of possibly get Lamar Miller. All signs seem to point to him being a FA.

If #Texas are paying $6.5M annually to Lamar Miller that is far over #cowboys RB line in cement. twitter.com/JoeDeMayo4/sta…

To me this is another clear sign that Stephen has more control of this team and we as fans may not like the way he's going to be running things. As quick as Jerry has always been to hand out big dollar contracts to unproven players or "hot" free agents it seems that Stephen is going to be the polar opposite.

When have the Cowboys ever been outbid on a $6.5 mil a year contract? Especially to a guy that is young, not injury prone, and plays a position that really needs an upgrade. I just hope that Stephen doesn't turn out to be one of those super cheap owners.

The #Jaguars are signing RB Chris Ivory to a deal that's believed to be well above $6M per year.

Well, looks like they just set the market for RB's. If Chris Ivory is getting over $6 mil a season I would think that Lamar Miller and Doug Martin could get more. And the Cowboys balked at paying $6.5 mil for Miller.

With Ivory gone, Bilal Powell comes into focus for Jets. ... But the Cowboys, Patriots & Ravens are interested in Powell, per league sources

I hope they want him as a replacement for Dunbar.

At least Steven has stayed away from Free agency like Daddy did. No more salary cap hell please. Too bad we lost out on Miller and I see McCoy was resigned by the Redskins today. Oh well, those were just about the only free agents I was interested in anyways. Always preferred building through the drafts. All of a sudden, I'm beginning to think we will draft a RB this year by round 3.

A lot of stupid money got thrown around didn't it... especially by the Giants. Reese looks desperate. That's a whole lot of cash on a whole lot of "maybe" right there.

I agree about drafting a RB. It almost looks like a given. As long as it isn't at #4...

Yea you can't really fault them for not spending like crazy. I wanted them to take a shot at Olivier Vernon until I saw what he ended up getting from the Giants. I would have also liked for them to match the deal for Lamar Miller but I'd also prefer a guy through the draft. I'm thinking they will end up with Davonte Booker or Kenneth Dixon in the 3rd.

As much as I've always hated Jerry, and still do. I must give Steven a lot of credit so far this year and the job he has done containing Daddy. We finally stayed away from free agency and now have money to attack the draft this year. Music to my ears after being in salary cap hell in previous years and over spending with other teams rejects and getting nothing from the draft.

I think they are also preparing for having to lock up Frederick and Martin. They can extend Frederick after this coming season and Martin the year after that. They don't want to be locked into any bad long term contracts like Carr's.

I'm hearing the Cowboys are interested in some Dixon guy from Louisiana Tech. I don't know a damn thing about the kid. Heard he may be our third round pick.

Powell resigned with Jets. ****. The only few free agents I was interested in are gone. Fine. Lets attack the draft. I've been bitching about it for over 4 years and I think I finally got my wish. Deforest Buckner with our first pick please. Get our damn RB and lets build a defense.

Yea that's Kenneth Dixon. Devontae Booker from Utah, Kenneth Dixon, C.J. Prosise, and Alex Collins could also be the pick. All are expected to go between the 2nd and 3rd rounds. This year's draft is about as deep in RB's as last year's draft was.

I have no doubt that was part of the plan in restructuring Crawford's deal... and the upcoming restructuring of Tyron's deal. Good. Get these guys locked up and set the foundation.

Agreed. If they are going to focus on building through the draft and resigning their own free agents I'm ok with that. If they didn't have Carr's contract on the books they likely would have resigned Murray last year.

With the resigning of McClain, looks like Myles Jack is out of the mix. I still hope we get another LB later in the draft. Especially one that is good covering RB's out of the backfield. Something we have been extremely weak at for many years. So with the way things have shaped out the past few days, it looks like Steven is gong DT, CB and RB. Of course I would still be in favor in moving back to aquire more picks. Still think the Rams may be a player though.

According to Bryan Broddeus the Cowboys will not cut Brandon Carr.

Lord... please let the Cowboys cut him and make that useless blowhard look incompetent again. He is the "Cowboys Insider" equivalent of Ian Rapaport.

I think they're waiting to see how the draft turns out. If they pass on Ramsey (or if he's gone by 4) and none of the CB's they like fall to them in each round they may not be able to cut him. At this point anyone they get in FA is going to be just as flawed as Carr.

Return to Dallas Cowboys
