As we sit here today
being 7-3 with a bye week while many of the league's elite teams need a win this week to be at 7-3 OR (philly) a lose could become 7-3 or even 6-4 for some (seattle)....and with somewhat good health compared to previous years, there is a lot to be happy as a Dallas Cowboy fan. Frankly, I was more optimistic than many in August but I didn't expect this. This team plays hard and this team plays for each other. That sure seems the difference from previous years to me. I knew the defense couldn't be as ugly as last season, but who actually thought this team could or would become an offensive rushing juggernaut?
Yep...lots to be happy about.

Yes, lots to be happy about. I'm still very cautious about how good we actually are, but I like that we've shown the ability to be great (Seattle game) even if it was followed up by some poor showings. IMO, Our best this year has been better than our best in recent years and our worst hasn't been as bad. I don't know exactly what that means, but I do think its a sign that the arrow is pointing up both short term and long term

Re: As we sit here today
Yes sir- tons to be happy and excited about. Kind of funny to me how we got to 7-3 , considering in August I would have been wrong on almost every game so far. I thought we would have 6 or 7 wins right now , but I would have only been right on 3 of the games back then. Yes , although I tend to be doom and gloom, my predictions are usually a little high.
Big games this weekend. It kind of makes me think do we pull for Eli vs the 49ers or not. I know I will be a Chiefs fan for sure.
As far as our team- they do play hard. Whoever got JJ to go with Martin deserves a lot of credit. I really think we can line up against anyone and run it and no I don't mean zone reads with our QB getting a bunch of the yards. Defensively, I still have some concerns but I think we can stop the run. The numbers may not show it but we have pretty much stuffed everyone this season. It seems like most of the yards we give up on the ground comes on about 2 plays. I really like the DLine- Melton, Crawford, Mincey, Hayden, McClain are really starting to make noise. If Spencer, Lawrence , Selviie can just provide a little spark here and there - I think it would be a real solid group. LBs have been outstanding. All the combos they have went through due to injuries makes it even more impressive.
Secondary- 32 is top 5 IMO. Moore is solid. Carr - I don't know- he is like Spencer, one game good next game bad. 27 has played really well and seems to be getting better each game. The better he gets though , it seems the more the opponents find 42 in single coverage.
Going to be a fun 6 games, hopefully more

Take away that real ugly first half vs SF and it has been really good. Of course that was mainly on Romo, but if you remember I think the defense shut them out the second half. I may be wrong. I thought a big key to the season was when we were down 21 to the Rams and didn't stop running the ball. It reminded me of the 90s some that day. The effort vs NO and Seattle was awesome. I know neither seem to be quite the teams we expected but I really thought we kicked their ass.

Re: As we sit here today
Short term. Yea ... there is a fair chance that at the end of the season, I can say that I'm damn proud of my Cowboys.
Long term. For me I can't think of anything else other than who is the next QB. Nothing affects my outlook of potential then who is at the helm. The wrong QB makes it seem hopeless ...remember Quincy Carter?
What drives me nuts is there are some moments to get rookie QB's into the game in the NFL but they don't do it. I understand some of the reason but I would not want to end the season without seeing a little of what the kid on the bench has got ...in a real world situation.

Yep, it's been a good year so far. I still worry about every game. I see that many of those 6 and 10ers are getting snug in their fan chairs.

My favorite was the absolute confidence they had that there was no chance our defense would be anything but worse than last year and the worst in HISTORY. No amount of pointing out how many injuries we had last year, or that it was the first year in a new defense or that we did bring in a lot of depth on the DL even if not stud players or anything else would even be considered. Just that our defense would be 100% absolutely abysmal and anyone that disagreed was clueless or waving pom poms. Afterall, before the season started it was already declared the worst draft in the history of drafts!!! A 1st round OL??? That is going to kill us.

Gotta say...I agree, and that's why I used the term new wave cowboy fan...which set up my demise at the hoop once the fan nation henchmen came a calling to protest that word. The new wave had nothing to do with term or longevity as a cowboy fan. The term was for the new cowboy fandom from FN and all the doom and gloom based on last year. MY GOD it was regurgitated ESPN editorials passed on as fact. That never sat well with me and coined the remark."Opinions based on opinions". The match with UK is perfect. Blind leading the blind while football clueless never had it so easy. It remains their loss

Re: As we sit here today
well considering its almost Turkey day the boys are 7-3 2 wins away from what I thought they would win all year in August I am happy to have already roasted my Crow seasoned with Butter and garlic and washed it down with copious amounts of Cold Beer .
No way I thought this was possible at all. Yesterday on Fitzsimmons and Freido on 103.3 here in Dallas Fitz was talking about sitting between Tony Boselli and another Radio guy on the flight back from London and they were watching film of the London game. Boselli Said Zack Martin was the best lineman on the team. High Praise for a Rookie OL coming from a really good former player who should know what a OL looks like and plays like !
Rod has the defense playing like I have not seen since back in the early 90's. They have holes but they put out maximum effort to cover them up. All in all a good time in Dallas
JMHO

I'm not going to say he IS the best, but I am going to say without a doubt that I think he has had the best year so far. Forget Pro Bowl, IMO the kid is playing like an All Pro. Quite a feat for a rookie...

Why not? I was impressed with what was posted about what Boselli thinks of him. Many of the perennial All Pro Guard are either hurt or having down years (Mathis, Mankins). It wouldnt shock me as I think I could run threw those GIGANTIC holes that Dallas is giving Murray. Sometimes when they show the replays of the holes that are being created I am dumbfounded.
I trust what you say and dont analyze separate positions often but do you agree with the earlier post of Scandrick being top 5? It sounded ludicrous to me because I havent heard of anyone hyping him up as having a great season while I do hear about many others. But I honestly cant argue it with facts or persuasion. Thoughts?

While our DBs are doing better than expected so some might say they are better than they really are. Make no mistake. We have no DBs that can be considered top 5. None zero zilch!

Re: As we sit here today
I said he was top 5 and I'm probably shooting a little high. The fact is nobody throws at him. He gets beat on a pick play every now and then but that's about it. The PFF thing has ranked him very high for yrs. truth be known, Carr and Moore are average at best so why throw at Scandrick at all. I don't know if he is that good or he is just taking advantage of the situation he is in. What I do know is he is one proud dude and has a huge chip on his shoulder. I also know he is by far the smartest player we have back there and it wouldn't surprise me one bit to see him become a head coach in the league someday. It will be interesting to see what he does after this season. He is under contract, but I seriously think the guy is underpaid considering the guy on the other side is one of the highest paid Cbs in the league. Personally, I would have him at about 7th on our teams list as far as best players.

Well I am gonna disagree.
wasn't it last year he was considered one of the top 5 over paid players? Yes he is working his A$S off, but he doesn't deserve a huge pay day. The offense controls the time of P. Just because he is playing better than the rest of our DBs doesn't make him great. Just better than our below avg. DBs. Just because he is playing up to all that money we gave him already doesn't mean he should get a raise. I am just happy he is earning his money. If his next contract is some huge one, it will be (hopefully) because he is wearing a different uniform.

He's a rookie so it will be tough, but he's been been mentioned a lot for his great plat, so it's not out of the question.
