Ryan Williams signed

A two year contract. I wonder if this mean Dallas doesn't think they can resign Murray. I hope they come to an agreement.

I don't think it necessarily means that we don't think we will sign Murray, but it is possible we do already know we aren't going to try very hard.

Any guaranteed money? My guess is its just to lock him up until at least cut down day next September. IF we lose Murray and don't sign or draft a RB this is a big insurance policy. Plus he's good enough to make the roster if a spot is open.

I saw a thing where the Cowboys mentioned they don't think they have the 2015 starter on the roster. (read this before signing Williams) So doesn't sound like they either think or want to resign Murray.

Saw an interview last week with JJ- it might have been NFL Network- but whoever was asking the questions talked about the big 2- Murray and Dez. He kind of dodged it a little and mentioned the franchise tag. Talked about Dez a lot. He never mentioned Murray's name that I recall

I do t think this is about replacing Murray just insurance in case Murray demands more than Kerry is willing to give. I don't think Jerry goes over 4M a year. I also doubt any team will give a RB more. Maybe Seattle if they let Lynch go.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Cowboys have had a four-year deal worth "more than" $16 million on the table for impending free agent DeMarco Murray.
As former Rotoworlder Chris Wesseling put it, no wonder Murray hasn't signed. Even in a depressed market for running backs, that's chump change for a runner who took the league by storm in 2014, putting the Cowboys' offense on his back in the process. At the bare minimum, Murray will likely be looking for $16 million guaranteed, not total. Arian Peterson, LeSean McCoy and Arian Foster have all broken the $20 million guaranteed threshold in recent seasons, but it's been a fairly-hard ceiling for running backs.

good call Manster. that would be 4 mil. a year.
Sounds like Cowboys are gonna let murray walk, from what I have been reading lately.

Bryan Broaddus of the Cowboys' official website does not believe the team's 2015 starting running back is on the roster right now.
In other words, Broaddus believes that DeMarco Murray will walk in free agency and Joseph Randle/Lance Dunbar won't be handed the gig. Perhaps that's because of a strong 2015 running back draft class, headed by Melvin Gordon and Todd Gurley.

It's really sad to watch if that happens. I understand it's a business but I have always thought you should be able to control or at least have a chance to control your own draft picks. I said it at the beginning of the year- it's a tough being penalized for drafting some good players. I do understand we have had some bad drafts in the past but we struck gold with Murray along with others. It's unfair to Murray to have to settle for that. I don't know his family situation , whether he has a house in Dallas , kids in school- whatever. Hell he may want out. I mean to me it sucks for both sides. We developed him. He has gotten better on our watch. I just love this team, but it's a business

Key thing you said is it's a business. If we draft so well we have to lose good players I'm OK with that. There is the end of the spectrum. We can draft so bad we don't have any players worth resigning. I'm hoping Jerry has learned sometimes he has to let some guys go rather than put the teams future in dept.

The problem with Murray walking is who's going to sign him for more than $4 million? He might test the waters, but I seriously doubt he gets much more than that. If I were him, I would stay in Dallas and have a chance at the playoffs.

Hopefully that's his and Jerry's plan. Test the waters to see his FA worth. If Dallas cannot or won't match he moves on. Just means now we have to consider a draft pick at the RB posistion.

The Colts could over him a nice deal and he'd be on a contender. He has options and since RB's have the shortest NFL careers he has to see where will be financially set. I hope he's back in Dallas but I won't hate on him if he chases the money.

Williams is a player if he can stay healthy. Murray is going to test FA IMHO and while I hate to see him go you have to keep your financial house in order something Jerry has had a hard time doing in the past. And for the first time in a long time I trust the scouting staff to at least put several capable RB options on the table for the Draft.

I don't think there is any question that Murray gets offers of more than $4M per year. Will he stay here for a little less? Not sure, but he'll have the offers. I hope if we let him go it's because the team decides they don't want to enter into the contract and not because its a cap issue due to the restructures of guys like Carr and where that has left us. Me, I've seen this offense with and without Murray and know his value. No way I let him go anywhere unless the $'s are more than a million or so per year different...I have no proof of course, but I don't think we make the playoffs without Murray and that means a whole heck of a lot of people in Valley Ranch have him to thank for the new contracts they are about to get...

Interesting thought I saw on FB. Jerry has a history of drafting injured players. Could he be thinking of trying to steal Gurley?

It's all about the guaranteed $$'s

I'd do 3 years at 17M with 10M guaranteed

Return to Dallas Cowboys
