ESPN Dallas doesn't expect the Cowboys to tender restricted free agent Lance Dunbar.
Dunbar would make $1.5 million at the low tender level. The Cowboys want to keep Dunbar, but are hoping to re-sign him to a lesser deal. Dunbar averaged just three touches per game in a limited passing down role last season.

I think it's time to move on from Dunbar. He's horrible at pass protection, can't run inside and the team clearly does not want him returning kicks or punts. Ryan Williams can easily make up for the 3 plays per game Dunbar was getting. Regardless of what people think about Randle he's still under contract and performed well when he got the chance. Plus he's one of the Cowboys better ST players. If they don't draft another RB then I'd like to see them bring in a guy like Steven Ridley from New England. Although even though they need d-line help if Melvin Gordon from Wisconsin is there at #27 I don't see how they could/should pass on him. Gordon/Ridley, Randle, and Williams would be a very solid RB committee.

I'm much higher on Dunbar than most. But I think this would be the right move. It's not just about keeping and signing the players that can help you, but it is important to do it at the right price too. Dunbar is probably our most explosive offensive player from a speed and quickness perspective. I think we will bring him back and I think he will get more action this year. I think he is worth the tender price, but I also think it is only worth us paying if we are going to get him much more involved. I'd love to bring him back cheaply and I think we will.
