A dispute between Dez Bryant and his advisor could be holding up contract negotiations.
The Cowboys have yet to sign Bryant to a long-term deal and that could be because Bryant wants to terminate his relationship with advisor David Wells. The Cowboys want Wells to stay involved so Bryant can focus solely on football and not worry about any off-field distractions. Wells was sent a cease-and-desist letter from Bryant's attorney back in February. Bryant was franchise-tagged by Dallas in early March.

Sounds like Roc Nation has had a discussion with Dez. I really don't blame him to be honest. He is a grown man and can't be forced to do any of this. However, the Cowboys also get to decide whether they want to be involved with him long term without Wells in the mix. I guess the smart thing for the team to do at this point is just keep the tag in place. Dez will part ways with Wells and we will have a year to see how it goes before needing to commit to him again.

After reading the story a few minutes ago... sounds to me like the best thing the Cowboys can do at this point is to let this thing play out and allow Dez to show the level of maturity he currently has. No point in anyone with the organization interjecting anything into this.
It's business.

Like I posted quite a few weeks back, we may have franchised the wrong player.

There was no way Dallas was paying Murray franchise money. So this is a moot point.

The Cowboys want an off-field structure designed to limit risk in Dez Bryant's next contract.
Unless the two sides can agree to a deal by July 15, Bryant will play out the season on the franchise tag. We know that if the contract was just about on-field play, it would be easy as Dez is undoubtedly deserving of top-three wideout money (around $40M guaranteed). But ESPN Dallas says the Cowboys want insurance that they won't be stuck paying Dez gargantuan sums if he's suspended a la Adrian Peterson or Greg Hardy last season. It's understandable, but also worth noting that Dez hasn't had any off-field issues since family violence charges back in the summer of 2012.
