Running Back Situation

Post#1 » by thierry » Tue Apr 3, 2007 5:46 am

What do you guys all think the Cowboys should do with their running back situation, how many carries do you think each back should get.. who should be in in what situations, who should start.. etc.

In my opinion..

Julius Jones starts and gets 16 carries
Marion Barber backs him up and gets at least 12 carries a game
Tyson Thompson plays all garbage time, and one normal series a game.. getting about 4 carries during close games and 7-12 during blow outs..

I'm not too thrilled with the RB situation. I'm just not sold on Julius but I like Barber in his current role.

I personally like Marion Barber the best out of our running backs. I like how he runs with a lot of passion and isn't afraid of getting hit. Jones is frustrating for me, he seems to get a ton of runs where he barely crosses the line of scrimmage, then he'll bust a big run. I am not sure how Barber would do as a featured back, but I would like to see him given the chance sometime in the near future.

I pretty much agree with this. I don't mind Jones but I can't see myself feeling to comfortable with him being the main guy. Having said that, I would rather just keep Barber in his current role and get a better main guy then upgrade Barber.

Jones said that he was running like a "robot" under Parcells and he was running on instincts his first year and he going to get back to it this year.

Thats a bit confusing. IIRC he was a rookie here under Bill Parcells. I never did understand what logic Parcells had with how he used him though.

Yeah that's true but this past year he was trying to go where the play was designed to go and was a pile runner instead of running on insticts like he did his rookie year.

Yeah I know exactly what you mean BGeezy, his rookie year he was much more wild and out of control, this past year his shoulders were always squared and he was always protecting the ball, I honestly loved him a lot more his rookie year..

There was that 71 yard run in the saints game. However it was downhill for us the rest of the game.

With Bill gone, Julius is going to run wild.

So with the repot that the Chiefs are looking to draft a high profile RB in the draft there is speculation they could try and trade LJ.

Do you think Julius and the our 1st Rd. pick would get LJ here?

I agree. I think he will have a big year and Barber will have a very good year also.
