I think we are putting too many eggs in our pair of receiver baskets. Glenn and Owens are too old to not have a backup plan. We have no backup plan. Crayton & Hurd? They can be nice 3rd options, but not a #2. Certainly not a #1. they could get away with it for a game or two, but a longer injury will be trouble for them.
The more I think about it though, the offense in general is only going to take us so far anyway, even if healthy and clicking. This year is more about the defense.
Btw, why don't we have 1st or 2nd round draft pick receivers we are grooming? That's right, we have invested SOOOOO much of our drafts on the defensive side of the ball. The more the offense struggles or incurs injuries, the more that investment needs to step up.
So, Owens gets hurt for 6 weeks, what;s the backup plan? Increased workload and pressure on the D. Tackle goes down, Romo sucks, running game struggling, Jason Garret having an anxiety attack... for me the backup plan for all of them, since we've not invested picks and much FAs on the O, is more load for the D.
It should be that way, right? When defenses struggle and the offense has invested more picks and FA money on that side, they are asked to score more points and get them wins, right? This is not one of those teams that has invested a lot of picks and money on Offense. So, you have to rely on the D.

he's not going to be playing this year though, he got hurt in there last game.
im fine with the wr's maybe its b/c i like crayton and hurd (and in hurds case think he can become better than a #3) but my major concern is at corner. after newman i dont have much confidence in anyone. also thought it was stupid for our smallest cb to be defending one of the biggest wr's in the league on saturday.

Wade threw small guys at bigger receivers to see what he had in case Newman can't go. A lot of teams have more than one "big" WR. Newman can cover anyone. So can Henry. But these other guys, smaller guys, he wants to see what they can do in games against bigger guys, to know what his backup plan should be if Newman can't go.
The answer: Plan B better include more help for our corners.

This sounds like complete BS to me but on the offchance this is at all true we have to get in on this
PASS-CATCHERS AVAILABLE FOR PEANUTS
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that a trio of Florida receivers are available to any interested takers.
Specifically Reggie Williams of the Jaguars, Michael Clayton of the Bucs, and Chris Chambers of the Dolphins are on the block.
But Schefter says that no serious talks have occurred regarding any of the three, which means that all three of them are in danger of being released on or before Saturday. Chambers, a second-round pick in 2001, has been the best of the three. Clayton and Williams were first-round picks in 2004. Williams was the No. 9 overall pick; Clayton was No. 15.

Well Our top two guys are getting pretty old. TO hasnt been the picture of health, and while Glenn has only missed one game the past two years he does have an injury history. I just think its a good idea to have someone else on the horizon. They could maybe push Crayton and Hurd. Its not like wed be spending much to get them so theres not really any risk to it, and who knows, maybe they turn out to be what we need. I really thought Crayton was going to turn it up a notch but that has yet to happen.
