Tank Expects to be a Cowboy???

Post#1 » by NeedsMoreCheese » Tue Sep 18, 2007 6:39 am

Tank Johnson said Monday night he expects to play for the Dallas Cowboys upon returning from his eight-game NFL suspension.

"I'm here to work some things out. I'm looking here for a fresh start," Johnson said when reached in his room at the hotel where the Cowboys stay before home games.

Earlier on Monday, a high-ranking team source said there have been lengthy discussions among members of the team's coaching staff and owner Jerry Jones about Johnson's off-field problems and his playing ability.

The Cowboys or any team would be able to sign Johnson during his suspension but he cannot work out or have contact with a team until he serves his suspension in its entirety.

Although Johnson has never played nose tackle, Phillips has extolled the flexibility of his 3-4 defensive scheme to accommodate players of different sizes and styles. The Cowboys lost starter Jason Ferguson for the season when the nose tackle suffered a torn right biceps tendon in Dallas' season-opening win against the Giants.

Johnson was waived by the Chicago Bears on June 25, three days after he was stopped by police in Arizona driving 40 mph in a 25-mph zone. Johnson was not charged with any crime. He was suspended by the league for violating probation on a gun charge that stemmed from a raid on his home. Johnson served a two-month jail term in the spring.

I thought he had a DUI? Was it just doing 40 in a 25mph zone? That doesn't seem too serious. Who hasn't done 40 in 30mph zone?

By the way, what is a 25mph speed limit? 20mph is school zone... I would be surprised to see anything less than 30 unless it was a school zone.

Either way, I thought it was A) A bunch of guns in his kitchen that police saw (not sure why they raided in the first place)... B) DUI.

The guns thing I heard he didn't have permits for some/or/all of them.

This guy's had a bunch of bad pub and teams won't touch him. I bet he would do good on a 1.5yr contract. I heard on the radio this morning that they are pretty sure Jerry would have no problem putting some clauses to cover himself in case another issue broke out with him. With the guys we have in this lockeroom, considering he's been blacklisted on most of the league, this might be his last chance... I'm sure he'd be able to stay out of trouble for a couple of years and not be a problem in the lockeroom.

He's a hell of a talent. Low risk I think.

radio rumour has it he is in town today; Jerry Jones would not confirm nor deny that DAL was talking to him.

He was arrested under the suspicion of drunk driving. He turned out to be under the limit.
