MRS. GIBBS PUSHING HUBBY HARD TO PACK IT IN?
We continue to hear that the wife of Redskins coach Joe Gibbs is pushing him aggressively to make 2007 his final season in the National Football League.
...
We're also told that owner Daniel Snyder is poised to turn up the behind-the-scenes heat aimed at securing former Steelers coach Bill Cowher to succeed Gibbs, if/when it begins to become apparent that Gibbs will call it quits after the 2007 season.
Gibbs, who'll be 67 in November, suffers from diabetes. Two years ago, a stent was inserted to clear blockage in an artery near his heart. Also, a young grandson of Joe and Pat Gibbs was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year.
We reported several weeks ago that Cowher has been privately discussing possible arrangements with several teams, and we've heard from two sources that Cowher has been in touch with the Redskins. The next day, the team issued a statement disputing our report.

Good info. I actually think that Cower would be perfect for this team. Portis/Betts is a better tandem that the one Cower won a Super Bowl with (Willie Parker and an aging Bettis) and Jason Campbell is essentially another Ben Rothlesberger. Not to mention that Randle El is already familiar with Cower and his trick plays. He would also have a good eye for young defensive talent in next year's draft. Of course we'd have to dump Saunders and Gregg "The Extra G is for Grumpy" Williams but that's not a bad thing IMO.
Speaking of the Double G - I bet he's upset. He was supposedly promised the head coaching gig post-Gibbs and now Snyder's going "haha - made you look". I guess the mismanagement and underachievement of the defense last year did him in. That's no surprise since ol' Danny Boy is a "what did you do for me 5-minutes ago" kind of guy. But I still think that Cower is a step up and would probably have the team in the playoffs his first year here.
