Mark Brunell to Atlanta? *
AJC reports: If the Falcons look to add another experienced QB to their roster, Daunte Culpepper was recently released by the Dolphins. He is battling back from a severe knee injury but is only two seasons removed from throwing for 4,717 yards and 39 TDs. Another veteran to watch through training camp is the Redskins' Mark Brunell, who is set to backup Jason Campbell. Brunell played for Falcons coach Bobby Petrino with the Jaguars and threw a career-high 23 TD passes in 2005 with the Redskins, when working with Bill Musgrave, who is now the Falcons QBs coach.

No way Gibbs unhitches himself from Brunell. I wouldn't be surprised to see Brunell start with the Wiz again this season. All it would take is for the Skins to have their playoff hopes on the line after back to back bad games from Campbell. No question that in that situation Gibbs will be rolling the #8 car out of the garage.
As for the rest of the QB's, I think Collins will be the one to go. It's classic Gibbs to have a vet he trusts on the roster and that's going to be Brunell. It's also classic Gibbs to have a project simmering on the back burner so I think Collins gets cut so that Palmer can be that project guy.

The Atlanta Falcons are believed to be talking to the Redskins about a trade for quarterback Brunell.
Michael "Dogfighting Man" Vick might never play another snap for the Falcons, who lost backup D.J. Shockley to season-ending knee injury last Friday. Atlanta's only quarterbacks behind new starter Joey Harrington, the Detroit and Miami bust, are Chris Redman, whose last game was with Baltimore in 2003, and Casey Bramlet, who was cut by the Redskins on Aug. 6.
Brunell, who could be on his way to third-string status in Washington, played for new Falcons coach Bobby Petrino in Jacksonville from 1999-2001 so he's familar with the scheme. Brunell, who'll be 37 next month, doesn't have much left, but he could get the Falcons through the season if Harrington can't. Petrino could then draft Brian Brohm, his former Louisville quarterback in April.
The risk for the Redskins is that Todd Collins, fighting with Brunell to be No. 2 behind Jason Campbell, has thrown all of 27 passes the past nine seasons. What's more, Campbell badly bruised his left knee on Saturday. It make sense to sit him out of the final two preseason games. If anything would happen to Collins, the Redskins would be left with rookie Jordan Palmer, whom the coaches haven't let play in preseason so far.
Mid-round pick would be a 4th or 5th round pick if I'm not mistaken. I'd trade him for a 4th round pick, conditional placed on playing time that could go as high as a 3rd round pick.
Bickerstaff: who's up for kickball?!!
Ed Wood: Only if it's the no-pants variety.

David Elfin of the Washington Times reports that the Redskins are believed to be talking to the Falcons about a trade that would send quarterback Mark Brunell to Atlanta.
Its now even verified by a WT source. I really believe a trade will get done because Brunell has played in Bobby Petrinos system before. GET IT DONE CERRATO.

He'd be great at center when EJ, ever the innovator, goes really small

Dang, I keep doing that!
I think that Collins starting tonight against Baltimore is going to factor into the decision. If he can move the ball against the first string Ravens defense, then I think it could make Gibbs more comfortable about parting with ol' #8.
Gibbs will have his starter in Campbell, his trusty veteran in Collins and his project in Palmer - seems like a perfect situation. I'm sure Brunell will be pissed that he reworked his deal just to get traded but hey, that's the business.
From Atlanta's perspective, it makes all the sense in the world. They need to win as many games as they can this season to keep the fans interested and Brunell is familiar with Petrino and his system. Also, Vick and Brunell are both leftys so that could ease the transition, especially for the offensive line and receivers.
