Here is a long but interesting read from an extremeskins fan:
so i went to my first practice yesterday and it was pretty much what i expected. id recommend to anyone else going dont get there until 5pm when they start doing the actual playing drills. watching the team stretch and do individual drills wasnt so special in 104 degree heat with no wind. but once they started doing the 4-4, 7-7, and 11-11 stuff, it was pretty sweet. some observations from yesterday:

Andre Carter - looked EXTREMELY lean, and it doesnt look like hes lost a step from last season (at least on passing downs). he had good initial burst on whatever lineman he was facing, made a few nice moves. wasnt dominating, but definitely looks more than capable of rushing the passer. so that is a good sign.

Chris Wilson (#77) - probably camp foder, but he made some really nice moves coming off the end yesterday. completely destroyed the tackle he was facing on one move, and seems like he has good initial burst on passing downs. not sure if he'll ever amount to anything, but he looked good on a few plays.

Rocky Mcintosh - looked like he was struggling in coverage over the middle a few times, im not sure if he was in a zone or man, but cooley got behind him once or twice for nice gains over the middle. he also blitzed on one play and would have leveled whoever was the QB and whoever was blocking him had to hold him hard to get his momentum to stop. hopefully we see more blitzing from him this year.

HB Blades - first, this kid looks like he swallowed a volkswagon jetta. he is a friggin ice box. he was barely hitting people and it looked like it hurt just getting near him. i couldnt see him on any passing plays, but his run support looked pretty solid. he was wrapping up even on practice downs, and definitely looks like no one will bulldoze this guy. glad to see him back on the field too.

DTs - hard to see this unit, but (awaiting crying from some of you), they got bulldozed on a number of running plays. betts blaylock and cartwright all got some huge gains running yesterday right up the middle. there were times where it looked they walked through these holes (more like gaping passages) untouched. it seemed like the only times the runs got stopped was when an extra guy was in the box. i was not impressed with our run stopping whatsoever.

Sean Taylor - looks lean has hell. didnt make any plays that i could see (i left before practice was over) but he helped out on some running plays. he looks way more athletic and im sure were going to see good things from him.

Carlos Rogers - didnt play as much as some of the other guys, but when he was in he actually looked improved. his burst off the ball looks better, it seems as though on a few plays he had better snap anticipation so he could keep up with receivers. there was one play where he pressed up on lloyd, started his run backwards right before the snap for a nice burst, lloyd ran a stop route, and carlos came right back up on him, lloyd gained like 2 yards. some fans were riding him especially hard, it was pretty funny hearing this random dudes screaming at the top of their lungs "CATCH THE BALL CARLOS!!". but all in all, he looked ok to me.

Shawn Springs - didnt play as much as most of the other CBs (shocker), but the one play i did see him in he got slayed by randel el on some sort of post route it looked like. el got behind him and campbells throw was a tad off, El dove for the ball and couldnt snare it, but Springs being torched wasnt a good thing to see. sad thats the only play i saw, of course it had to be a bad one! haha

LaRon Landry - i was really impressed with the kid. he was in on a few plays and he always seemed aware of where the play was going. seems like hes got very good instincts, he made one nice play on a pass where he was right in the WRs face (couldnt see who it was) and the the WR should have caught it but probably heard the footsteps. he played centerfield a lot, i didnt see him in the box, but it was his first day so im sure hes learning everything. all in all, i think we have something special in this kid. with a pass rush, him and taylor should be a force back there.

thats about all i saw for the defense, our DEs looked solid, although on a number of running plays we had guys cutting back and getting around everyone, which wasnt a good sign. our DTs got bulldozed around too much and holes were too big, those were 7-7 with no secondary but the front 7 should be able to stop the run better than they did. there were too many big plays given up and that was our big problem last year, and it doesnt seem to have been fixed. hopefully i saw scrubs getting bulldozed, although golston/mont/salavea were all participating during the drills.

offense

Cooley - if we dont lock this guy up, we should just firesale the team. he looked great yesterday, his route running is great, his hands are great, hes just a beast. he caught a number of passes over the middle, and he looked like he was in midseason form. cooley is a monster, hands down.

Lloyd - definitely bulked up, dropped one pass that the whole crowd screamed at him for, but did make one nice catch on the sidelines. his run blocking will probably be better due to his size, and his route running was pretty fluid.

randel el - looked like randel el. made some nice moves, but didnt do anything out of the ordinary. hes the #2 guy, hopefully he steps up.

moss - didnt play too much, but just from watching the drills the WRs ran, its easy to see why he was a 1st round pick. the dude is just so fluid and its blatantly obvious that he stands out from the other guys.

#86 - no clue who this dude was but my god is his route running stiffer than a corpse. no fluidity at all, hes just this frankenstein looking guy at over 6 feet. he will never make the team running the way he did.

betts/blaylock/cartwright - all of them looked like the same runner, all did the same thing which was run through mack truck sized holes. no really nice moves from these guys, but good hitting the hole.

portis - before he shut down, he was running some receiving routes, he was definitely more fluid than betts during these drills. hes quicker and leaner, and if he stays healthy we'll be fine with old school portis.

Oline - couldnt see but they opened up some big holes for the running game. good pass blocking, but it was hard to see being level with the field. definitely looked better than our dline did.

Campbell - looks pretty good, i dont think we should all be worried. preseason will tell a lot because its hard to judge when he knows hes not getting hit. his throwing is much better and his passes were very tight. jury is still out though, making throws in practice isnt a tell tale sign.

Mike Sellers - jesus christ. im going to say that again. jesus christ. if this dude doesnt kill somebody this season, i will be shocked. he is enormous, and by enormous i mean, enormous. holy god is the man huge. seriously, if you have a chance to go to practice, you should go just to see him. were lucky to have this guy and it looks like he worked hard on bulking up over the offseason. very excited to see him become a bigger part of our offense.
