SALARY CAP SITUATION

The gist is so long as Snyder is willing to convert unguaranteed money into guaranteed money they will avoid cap hell, or at least most gm's around the league think they will avoid it:
The Skins have 46 players under contract for 2008 right now and are indeed $20 million over the cap.

"But, as one cap expert said from another team. "That number is (BS). It doesn't mean anything. They'll cut a few guys and move a bunch of cap numbers around and convert some (base salary) to bonuses and they'll be fine."

Another cap exec said: "That number ($20 million over) means diddly." (Yes, he actually said this. Not sure if I spelled diddly correctly, but I'm rushing to finish this before starting my 1pm webchat, so you get the idea)."

Yes, I've said this several times in the past years. They've done this every year now, convert it into guaranteed money. Players don't mind because its basically free money, they're getting money they thought they wouldn't get.

It's amazing that the media hasn't caught up on that yet.
