Official Game Thread - @NY Giants 9/4/08

Post#1 » by Scabs304 » Mon Sep 1, 2008 9:34 pm

Where: Giants Stadium
When: 9/4/08 7:00PM
TV: NBC

Match-up of the game:

Redskins OL vs. Giants DL
Well Osi is out, but Skins have been having trouble blocking up front. I believe if the Skins don't allow a sack in this game it will be an easy win.

Giants are defending NFL champions and are getting no respect. I believe I would like to continue that and say we will win 28-7. Eli is suck.

Scabs, I am worried about the G-men blowing us out in their home opener. D-line problems or not, I see think their rushers will shred our O-line and get to J Campbell.

After the past couple of preseason games, I think our offense is as inept as is was in the early Al Saunders days (hello, Mark Brunnell!)

Hoping that I am wrong, but the bandwagon never gets fired up...

Final score prediction - NYG 24 WAS 10

Man, I am drinking the Ji kool-aid...

With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,

Dang, and you are usually the positive one in here.

That score looks pretty accurate too, but you must be assuming the Redskin's defense will score a TD.

Optimistic prediction: NY 17 Wash 20 (OT)

Realistic prediction: NY 28 Wash 6

Pessimistic prediction: NY 45 Wash 0

1st quarter adjustments...

1. Take Jason Taylor out 2. Bring back Greg Williams 3. Pray!

What has bothered me the most about this game is 1. run defense 2. play calling. Okay I know it's his first attempt, but this is atrocious and I'm going to hate watching this offense this season if this is the play call...

That was horrible. The score was not an accurate indicator of how far apart these two teams were.

Grades:

Game plan offense- F
Game plan defense- D
Gametime adjustments- D
Fundamentals- C

OL performance- D
QB performance- D-
Defensive performance- C-
Special teams- B

Head coach performance- F
DC performance- C

4-12 might be optimistic (sic)...lol

This was a terrible game and the Redskins need help in a lot of ways.

First, the offense: The offense was manila and lacked any creativity. The play calling was about as predictable as it gets and the Giants figured it out real quick. This looked like the JV team scrimmaging against the Varsity squad, just trying to avoid a big mistake. The Giants had the RB position spotlighted and the Redskins never adapted. They never tried to air it out and they didn’t use their best weapon: Chris Cooley. The offensive line did not help much in the run game, but when every play goes to the RB they cannot be blamed completely. The Redskins need have a few threats on offense and need to incorporate them into the game plan. Hit Randle El on a slant, let Moss use his speed; let the passing game build so they can use Portis as he should be. And please, get some discipline and drop the false starts.

The defense looked pretty bad too, but when the offense leaves you on the field the whole game there is not much they can do. The defensive line was not applying any pressure to Eli till the second half. Eli had his way the first half but Taylor is playing injured so I can somewhat excuse that. The LB core looked good and played with heart but Brandon Jacobs was breaking it too far on them. The secondary was pretty pitiful and the Giants exposed it. Rogers got burned and it looked like the progress he made last year was thrown out the window. Smoot played with intensity but he still had his fair share of mistakes. And Doughty should be a backup at best; he has no business in the starting lineup.

The Giants should have done a lot more damage than they did but they got the W. Brandon Jacobs carried the offense the Redskins incompetence carried their defense. If the Redskins don’t shape up their offensive woes this is going to be a really long season for them.

Okay if we are going to give grades I think we have to edit the categories a little bit

Grades:

Game plan offense- F
Game plan defense- D
Gametime adjustments offense- F
Gametime adjustments defense- B+

OL - D
QB - D
RB - C+
WR - D
TE - Incomplete
Defensive line- D+
Secondary - C- (improved after first quarter)
LB - C (probally would be lower, but Fletcher was everywhere he could possibly be)
Special teams- B

Head coach performance- F
DC performance- C (was in the F range, but the adjustements at half time made the Giant offense look as inept as ours)
