Much to the relief of Skins fans everywhere, Vinny Cerrato just resigned as GM. Got a text from one of his underlings a few minutes ago, he's gone. More to the story when I find out

Bruce Allen, the son of former Redskins coach George Allen, will be the new executive vice president of football operations and general manager of the Washington Redskins, according to readio station ESPN 980.
Allen served as a senior executive with the Oakland Raiders from 1996-2003. He then was general manager of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2004-08, when he and Coach Jon Gruden were ousted in a sweeping, season-ending change despite the fact the pair won a Super Bowl together.

I keep hearing Allen and Gruden is a package deal. I don't know...didn't Gruden sign a contract extension with ESPN?

I was thinking the same thing. I don't think Gruden can get out of his deal right away. But what if they let Zorn finish out his contract and then in 2011 see if they can get Gruden from ESPN? It would at least give them a bridge so that they stay in the WCO rather than having to completely re-tool (again).

Well, no Gruden or Holmgren. And now this about Shanahan:
A close friend of Mike Shanahan's said the Chicago native and two-time Super Bowl winning coach with the Denver Broncos would be "extremely interested" if the Bears' head-coaching job were to become vacant.
"The job is really attractive to Mike," the friend said. "It's home [with relatives of his, including his dad, in the Chicago area, and wife Peggy's family still in the Bloomington area]. It's a great challenge because that roster needs to be made over, and the one guy there to build the team around is the one guy he has already built a team around and with whom he has a tremendous comfort level, Jay Cutler."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/05/04/AR2010050403588.html?hpid=topnewsI wonder if this debacle is connected to the Skins PR guy wanting to spend more time with his family.
