No it's not, THT was still our player before he signed his new deal. Couldn't be traded until January.

Monk will be signing with the Kings, not us.

Via the sign and trade, Lakers can get a TPE equal to Monk's yearly salary back, or a contract within 125% of Monk yearly salary, which would make a guy like Holmes available.

I mean that’s just not how this works. THT couldn’t be sign and traded because his new contract was 120% or above his previous year contract.

Monk isn’t on a laker contract currently, you can’t trade someone who is a current free agent. Sign and trades means the team signs the player who was on their roster the previous year, and then trades them. We don’t have the ability to just receive back the equivalent of a larger contract he would sign with another team.

Yeah. Got the chance to come home and research a bit, you guys are right. I was wrong, I apologize for the mess.

However, all this doesn't really work because we can't offer Monk more the TPMLE which is around 6 mil.

His market value is no more than 10-12 mil per. The Kings and nobody is offering more than that. That's around the regular MLE which is 10.8 next year I think, with the cap rising.

The luxury tax threshold has increased as well for next year, it's over 150 mil. If we do the Westbrook trade first, adding Nunn as well, for Brogdon and Hield. That would actually be a legal trade and would put us under the luxury tax in the process, thus gaining the full MLE.

We can then sign Monk to the full MLE(around his market value) and sign and trade him to the Kings(who really want him, twitter is all over this) for Holmes.

Hate to burst your bubble, haha, but even this wouldn't be possible unless we send out more dollars. If we sign Monk to the full MLE ($10.49M) and trade him to the Kings, the out-going salary will be 50% of that or his previous salary (whichever is higher). So we can only take back (120% of $5.245M) + $100K = $6.394M. Holmes' salary is $11,215,260.
