16-11 after that ugly 2-10 start. Not too shabby.
Rob still needs to stop messing around and make a trade, but props to the boys and Ham for not letting this season get away from them.

Can't hate them that much because they can't do a whole lot without LeBron's approval... But what's on the court right now is complete crap, and they're not doing a great job controlling the narrative... They're still living in a world where star players show their appreciation for 'loyalty'... They haven't realized yet that the more they try to keep LeBron happy, the deeper the whole they dig for themselves with their fans and their future. LeBron isn't Kobe... He doesn't give a **** about the Lakers or their fans. Just like he doesn't about Cleveland, or Miami...
So **** him now, or get **** by him later... that's the choice... Only question is timing.
No they're not between a rock and a hard place. They're just incompetent which they've been for more than a decade. There are so many bad moves along the way that its tough to give them a break of any kind.
They have Lebron and AD, who both are top 10 players when they're healthy, yet they refuse to put a team around them to succeed because they're so **** obsessed with getting what they believe is a star. And their definition of star is whoever was an all-star 4 years ago, rather than who is productive today. The result is that they run AD and Bron into the ground.
I'll counter that with, both AD and LeBron went to the FO and demanded they get Westbrook...
AD and LeBron do nothing without Klutch... So assume Klutch was in the room too...
That's a pretty damned-big rock if you ask me...
The hard-place being the alternative, which would be to try to trade LeBron and ditch Klutch... Or rather, to tell Klutch and LeBron to pound sand and build the team you think is best around them...
Which would almost certainly result in LeBron trade demands...
Either they're incompetent BECAUSE they got LeBron or they're not... You can't really blame them for the team they have now, when everyone admits AD and LeBron wanted Westbrook... That's pretty much a fatal move right there that everyone called a mile away...
Well, i am blaming them for the team they have now since it was Jeanie and Rob that put that team together, so its their responsibility. Lebron may have wanted them to get Westbrook, but they fact that they granted him his wish just underline how incompetent they are given that anyone with half a brain could have predicted that it would be a disaster.
Also, i'm not sure that i buy that Lebron getting Westbrook was a major demand tbh. Not when you look at the free agent targets this past decade (i.e. big names who used to be good). He **** fits the bill.
Right now i just hope they do something pretty soon before the season is over.

If Lakers can win more than 2 of their next 10 they will be in good shape. It's a rough stretch

I just saw their upcoming schedule . Actually their next 12-14 games are brutal.
We need to get AD back asap.

20 games until all star break and I think Lakers could maybe win 5..
Going to be a rough time.

They’re playing very hard. That was a great win at SAC.
Sweet 5 game winning streak.
We have a very rough patch of games coming up. But this is a good start.

I've thrown more than my fair share of shade at this FO. If I'm going to sling it, I also need to eat crow sometimes. The Schroeder and Bryant signings for the vet min look like home runs.

Re: Are you OK with the Buss ownership?
Agreed. I was completely against Schroeder for the $80M deal. Current deal is very good for us. And, for him.
Bryant is a good pickup offensively but he’s a matador or simply unable on defense.

Re: Are you OK with the Buss ownership?
Ownership and FO seemed to have a good stretch of drafting when we got Ingram, Randle, Hart, Kuzma, Ball, Caruso etc.
Was that because Rob had his way back then or because Ryan West helped him? Rob has actually drafted well since, so I’m thinking the iron grip of Klutch is the main culprit…

Maybe getting the #2 pick 3 years in a row, with at least one of those #2 picks getting a higher pick than they finished in the standings had something to do with that.
Hart, Kuzma and Caruso were good choices, without using high picks.

Klutch brought in KCP, LeBron, Davis. It's hard to be mad at that.
Jesse Buss is great at scouting I think though.

I think so, too. I hope Jeannie gives him more space to operate soon. He reminds me the most of Dr Buss out of all the kids. His demeanor…
Yeah, that’s true that Klutch did good, too. And so is the fact that we signed other players from Klutch that were useless to us yet overpaid, because of Klutch. Letting Caruso go was strangely idiotic etc. It smelled like ‘Klutch burn’ many times over the last few years. In fact, much of what milesfides predicted when LBJ became a Laker has indeed happened. I still root for the name on the front of the jerseys but Klutch is a double edged sword and I look forward to the Lakers being freed from its reign.

Good point about Klutch being a double edged sword. As much as Rob has annoyed me with some of his moves, I agree that his job hasn’t always been made easier by Klutch influence.

Klutch also delivered on bringing AD to the Lakers and getting the team its "in-the-'bubble'" championship, too.
The Lakers and Klutch have a "complicated" and "nuanced" relationship.

It's hard to be mad at getting a championship.
Ultimately the offseason that screwed everything up was trading for Russ, overpaying THT and no re-signing Caruso.
Just an all-time awful offseason. So many moving parts of terrible. I still blame the FO since they signed off on all of it. It was a gamble and it failed because I don't believe they knew what they had. Trading Green+#29 for Schroeder was also indicative of this. They needed to go elsewhere to replace Rondo.

I'll plant my flag on this team being a top 3 or 4 seed had they made the Pacers trade this offseason. Not closing the deal on that trade was incredibly frustrating.

I'd take Burks, Bojan, Noel for 1xFRP over the Pacers package. Noel could step in now with Davis out but retreat to spot minutes once he's back.
Bev, Burks, Bojan, LeBron, Davis -- Schroeder, Lonnie, Reaves, Gabriel, Bryant -- Nunn, Christie, Brown, JTA, Noel
VS
Bev, Hield, LeBron, Davis, Turner -- Schroeder, Lonnie, Reaves, Gabriel, Bryant -- Nunn, Christie, Brown, JTA, Jones
I think you get Burks+Bojan as two seperate 40%+ 3 shooters, both are solid defensively.
Turner isn't as good a 3 shooter but brings the best defense. Hield is no better shooting than Bojan+Burks but defensively worse.
Lakers can keep an FRP while being about as good.
Hield has never played a playoff game and Turner is playing well in his first season away from another big (Sabonis) that plays similarly to Davis. The fit isn't as obvious to me as Burks/Bojan.
