Jeanie Buss' Sanitized Character on Netflix' Running Point

Post#1 » by tamaraw08 » Thu Mar 6, 2025 5:22 pm

It's interesting no one has posted this about our "Beloved" owner's co Produced Series on Netflix called Running Point.
Actually Jeanie and even her bestfriend Linda Rambis were 2 of the listed Executive Producers.
Isla Gordon, overlooked her whole life, is appointed President of the LA Waves basketball team, a family business. She aims to prove she was the right choice despite skepticism.

I said sanitized because they made it appear that it was her brother who appointed her instead of telling the true version when she actually kicked Jimmy out.
The irony too was the part when her brothers tried to unseat her. :banghead:
The series had a pretty good 7.5 rating from IMDB, 77% from rotten tomatoes.

According to the series, it was Jeanie who made the transactions, no Rob Pelinka character no Magic etc. Linda was played by Brenda Song, an asian with no husband mentioned... yet.

Interesting. Will have to watch it!

Have you seen the interview with her in Dodger’s stadium, where she asked a guy who claims to be a medium if her dead father is happy with her work? It’s pretty revealing. She seems to measure her success by not effing it up, and so safe money bets in order to keep the ship going seems to be her game. Staying afloat, not aggressively pursuing basketball excellence. Meanwhile the Celtics got another title.

Right now we’re doing well. I hope she’s letting Rob make decisions going forward. Delegating decisions on basketball matters to Jerry West and Kupchak was Dr Jerry Buss’ game. He loved the Lakers and risked his money, that’s what he brought. Big shoes to fill, but still.
Since the 1976 merger LAL 11, CHI 6, BOS 6, SAS 5, GSW 4

I really think she is letting Rob make most decisions pertaining to their team operations.
My only complain was when she told Rob that he can only pick between THT and Caruso because she didn't pay more $ on luxury taxes. :( .
Going back to the series, I don't know if you watched Ted Lasso because it has that underdog vibe, this time instead of a foreigner who seemed incapable of coaching a team, this time a woman being doubted to run a multi million Pro squad ruled by Men.
I liked but not loved it because they portrayed her as a savvy basketball high IQ executive who made all those genius transactions etc.

I sure hope she is trusting Rob by now. Yeah, what gender people are personally concerns me little when looking at their performance. As a man I could go on and on and on about brilliant women that I idolize. Jeannie has the power of the check-book and the lifelong deep knowledge of the inside Laker culture. Like you, I doubt her brilliance as a high IQ basketball mind. Her dad delegated that part. And not to the Rambii.

But hey, this is not the time to complain, I love how our team is constructed right now and the way we’re playing on both ends. We’re soon to be peaking on both ends, but for now our swarming team defense is just fantastic. Our half court offense needs work.

On Saturday, we’ll see how our plan to let teams shoot contested threes holds up against a historically great 3PT shooting team in Boston. Hopefully they will adjust it a bit for that game.
