You are right, I did give Kobe too much credit in my first post, but that doesnt change my opinion which is: PART of the reason Bynum worked so hard this past summer was because of some of the things Kobe said... Bynum seeing what Kobe does to prepare for games over the years plays a role too imo

See, here I can agree :D . This board just has a tendency of getting way carried away with it's Kobe praises. And to me that whole situation is just another testament to Bynum's credit. Kobe never took him under his wing by any accounts of what I've read (Miles' OCRegister link actually sheds some negative light on Kobe there) and without the FO dedication and desire to somewhat shelter Bynum he could have possibly become another Kwame.

I was thinking about this too.... In a way, Kobe did the same thing Jordan did to Kwame..

Jordan told Kwame, either get better, and start preparing better or GTFO... That ended up messing up Kwame's psyche or whatever and he actually got worse... and ended up getting traded

Kobe basically said the same thing: "do something now/ship his ass out"... and Bynum responded by doing everything he could to get better... This in itself how much more determined a guy like Andrew is than say..... KWAME.... but the question is still: Did Kobe's words motivate him?... I think they did, but in no way am I trying to take anything away for Bynum... I am thanking GOD right now that he didnt shy away and give in like Kwame did so many years ago

Awesome job Andrew, keep up the great work

There is a difference on the Jordan/Kwame and Kobe/Bynum situation.

Jordan actually demanded and pushed Kwame until he cried like a girl and started playing like one.

Kobe just vented to management and media saying he wants out because the Lakers team and future sucks and wasn't centered around Kobe and never directly criticized Bynum to his face (as far as we know about.)

How the hell are some of you giving Kobe full credit for Bynum's emergence?

Sure, he mightve been some motivation (as he should), but dont you guys think Bynum had motivation to grow regardless of Kobe saying anything?

KObe should get no real credit for Bynum's willingness to work on his game as much as he does.

Actually, I give Kobe some credit. Bynum's seen Kobe's work ethic and know what Kobe's done to be a 3-time Champion and All Star player. Kobe's given plenty of advice on his game.

But I give a whole lot of credit to Kareem taking Bynum under his wing.

Also, I like to give Erik Eleven credit for supporting Bynum for all these years. And I like to give Trixx credit for making Bynum sigs. And I like to credit Bynum's mom for giving birth to Bynum.

I've left someone out. I always hate doing these.

I say "credit" for lack of a better word... I'm sorry but I dont see Andrew Bynum as the same player today if he was drafted by the Clippers, Grizzlies, Knicks, etc....

Kobe gave him an example of excellence that he would not have seen on any other franchise... And those words would motivate just about anyone.. I refer back to my example...

If you have a job you really like and someone above you wants you fired, are you just gonna stop working? Or go above and beyond to keep your job?

Kareem should get "credit" as well, he didnt have to take time out to help Andrew... And Im sure Kareem has taught him a lot
