^ He's 7th in PER overall, a measure of overall offensive impact, and by far the most impactful defender in the league next to KG. The only reason their record isn't better is that they've suffered more injuries than usual. Not hard to understand any of this, nothing about them has changed compared to last season, when they were the champions. Unless you're arguing they have slown down.

7th in PER is far from 1st. Plus, look at his OPP PER, it's way down, to an extent that can't be explained by anything more than old age(it was like that before his injury, so that's not an excuse either.) Furthermore, his EFF is not close to 1st.
There are no stats that suggest Duncan as being close to being the best player, none.

^ And there are no stats suggesting Kobe is close to being the best player, none. Not PER, EFF, or otherwise. But I'd have to question your intelligence if you think Kobe hasn't been the best player in the league this season, next to LeBron of course.
And OPP PER means jack, defense cannot be summed up by such a statistic. His impact on his team defensively as the anchor shows up in their 3rd overall defensive efficiency ranking in the league.
