Come on now, KG is better in every single facet of the game. And he's one of the best defenders in the game; Pau, mediocre. KG also plays with an incredible amount of passion every night, and provides a major intimidation factor.
That being said, Pau is the hot fuzz.

I think they both fit perfectly in the triangle. If i had to choose I would probably go with Pau, just because of his age. We could have a core of Gasol/Bynum for a long long long long time. Bynum still has over 10 years left to play (hopefully as a laker). Garnett's defense and intensity is far superior than Pau's though.

KG>Gasol on any team... this isn't even a question in my mind. KG would of fit PERFECTLY into the triangle, I mean the guy does it all, plus he's probably a top 5 defensive player in the league.
I still would rather have Gasol+Bynum+Odom over KG. Thats also no question in my mind... esepcially for the future.
Gasol is sort of like a Horace Grant with less defense, and a more polished offensive game (but softer). Honestly, Gasol is great, especially for what we got him for, but he's nothing more than a good role player on this team. Bynum and Kobe are the only true impact players on the Lakers, which is enough when you have good players like Gasol and Odom, and then a good bench.

This is going to be an unpopular opinion, but I think Garnett would be a better fit.
Granted, I know a lot of people have to say Gasol because the trade actually happened, and we actually have him on our team. However, I'm going to remain unbiased on this one.
Garnett has more range, both on offense and defense. With one of the main requirements on offense being able to play multiple positions, Garnett gets the notch in that category.
Can you imagine a 1-3-1 defense with a trio of Bryant, Garnett, and Bynum? Bryant would provide the first line of defense. If the player burns past him somehow, then he'll be faced with Garnett. If he somehow manages to burn past two of the best defenders in the league, then he'll have to face Bynum.
I don't see too many players in the league that can go through those three guys in one play.
So, yeah, I prefer Garnett. That doesn't mean that I don't like Gasol, though.

What's lost in those stats is KG incredible defense. It's a game changer, and perhaps only Tim Duncan and Marcus Camby protect the basket as well as KG does.
However, this discussion is a little bit much, like dissing Jessica Alba because she's not Olga Kurylenko.

That's a bit unfair...
I think you mean to say you'd rather have:
Gasol+Bynum+Odom over Gasol+KG.
True... or should we say KG + player of Gasol calibur? I'm sure we wouldn't go for Gasol with KG on our team, since they play the same position. And perhaps we wouldn't have made a trade at all, since we would have no Bynum and no Bynum injury... but whatever the case, I like our position right now, granted if we can stay healthy.... Injuries are becoming really annoying.
Anyhow, no matter how you slice it, Heads up, better fit, etc... KG is better, and the better fit when comparing him straight up against Gasol. No Question. He can do everything Gasol can do, but better, and then some... but I'm not complaining about Gasol, that was a great move, and he should be a great fit. Either way, it was easily a trade worth making.
