I Miss That Playoff Intensity...Do You?
Maybe the fact that NBC televised the games had something to do with it, but I'm currently watching Game 6 of the 2000 NBA Finals and I've never seen a game as intense as this one. Both teams (Lakers/Pacers) not pulling any punches, Shaq was in his prime, and Kobe Bryant was electrifying the league. Watching this game gives me chills whenever a big shot is made.
Do you guys believe we can get back to that magical 2000 season in terms of dominance and excitement? What do you guys think?
This was us back then...
PG - Ron Harper/Derek Fisher
SG - Kobe Bryant/Brian Shaw
SF - Glen Rice/Rick Fox
PF - A.C. Green/Robert Horry
C - Shaquille O'Neal/John Salley
--
And this will be us now...
PG - Derek Fisher/Jordan Farmar/Sasha Vujacic
SG - Kobe Bryant/Sasha Vujacic/Coby Karl
SF - Lamar Odom/Trevor Ariza/Luke Walton
PF - Pau Gasol/Vladimir Radmanovic/Ronny Turiaf
C - Andrew Bynum/Ronny Turiaf/Chris Mihm

On paper, I think the LAkers look better with the current roster. Intensity has a major, major, roll in winning. I think there's enough to go around with Kobe, Gasol, Bynum, Ariza, and Fisher on the floor. The problem is, not that I think will be a big deal in the long run, Bynum and Gasol with Ariza have not been on the floor together. That being said it's hard to really get an accurate analysis of the team until we actually see them on the court...
But, simply, if it's just a straight up question... "Do you believe just looking at the roster?" Then I tell you, yes, most definatly.

Who do you believe plays the roles?
IMO...
Dominant Shaq Role - Kobe Bryant
Pippenesque Sidekick Type - Pau Gasol?
Sure Enough Third Option - Andrew Bynum
Three Point Specialist - Derek Fisher
Robert Horry - ????? (Vladimir Radmanovic)
Brian Shaw - Jordan Farmar
Ron Harper - Lamar Odom
Horace Grant - Ronny Turiaf

Oh yes, my friend--THE INTENSITY WILL BE BACK and maybe as soon as this year. ..Kobe, Bynum,Gasol and Odom? Are you kidding me? I am about to write a whole blog about how the Lakers will now return to past glory--with Kobe in the lead role!! You cant write this any better-ESPECIALLY if they get to the Finals and find Boston waiting.,,Andrew must come back this year healthy, or the parade will have to wait 'till '09..

the 2000 team was hungry because you had alot of NBA stars (Shaq, Rice, up and coming Kobe) and veterans looking for their first ring (Fox, Shaw) and vets who wanted to get a championship again (Harper, Salley, Green, Horry)
What we have now is a team that is alot younger, but starving to prove to the media and to Kobe they are contenders. They want the limelight. They are not by any means a dark horse now (see New Orleans) but they want the La-La Land status.

You better go check his playoff statistics then...The Machine has always showed up well in practice and the playoffs, we've just been waiting for him to come through consistently in the regular season.

I remember too, but at that moment i was just watching the game. Now you look back and you take it all in, for me it was because the lakers weren't good and had no shot of winning the championship. After losses last year i'd watch a game from 2000-2002 and be like THAT'S HOW A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM PLAYS. And no it's not NBC even though i miss those days....but watch the lakers vs suns kobe game-winner and you still get that feeling

I wouldn't normally respond to such crap, but I feel the need. Crack has nothing to do with it. And if you can't handle the opinion that the current roster LOOKS BETTER ON PAPER than the 3-peat roster than prove your point. Not once did I ever say that they were literally better than the past roster.ljp24 wrote:Are you on crack? Seriously.
