THE PLAYOFF PICTURE

Post#1 » by TruSkool » Tue Feb 12, 2008 4:19 pm

what seed woud the lakers stand come playoff time and who would be their first round matchup?
how will the rest of the playoffs pan out?

heres my prediction:

1.hornets
2.suns
3.lakers
4.mavs
5.spurs
6.jazz
7.rockets
8.nuggets

1st round
hornets vs nuggets-nuggets win
suns vs rockets- suns win
lakers vs jazz- lakers win
mavs vs spurs- spurs win

2nd round
nuggets vs spurs-spurs win
lakers vs suns-lakers win (can you imagine the hype in this series?!)
kobe vs shaq
phil vs d'antoni
upcoming team(lakers) vs desparate team(suns)
bynum vs amare

west finals-lakers vs spurs
(i think the spurs would win due to their experience, but i sure the laker co. could prove me wrong!)

finals- spurs/lakers vs celtics

champs-spursvsceltics=celtics lakersvsceltics=lakers

utah or denver has to be up there.

The Lakers, if as healthy as they are now, will end up with a top 4 seed, no doubt. Some say that it would be a fun first round matchup with the Suns, but, for me, I'd rather play them in the WCF. I'd take a Jazz/Nuggets/Blazers/Warriors or even a Rockets first round matchup.

jazz/nuggets/blazers/warriors are fine teams to play before going for the suns. the lakers winning record with and without bynum
we lost here and there but not to the point if we were to play them again they would have home court
we should be fine, not from a homer stand point but a realistic one

As much as people keep saying they'd be nasty in a series- I'd like a first round matchup with the Nuggets.

I can't wait. Playoffs are what basketball is all about. Here's how i think the standings will look:

Suns
Mavs
Lakers
Jazz(division Leader)
Spurs
Hornets
Rockets
Nuggets

lakers and suns can't both be in the top 4 together right, since their in the same division
the lakers will have to win the pacific to get in the top 4

Not true. There are only 3 divisions in the conference. So obviously 2 of the the top 4 teams have to be in the same division.

The Lakers should win the Pacific. The Suns have a tough 2nd half of the season and the Lakers have mostly home games. I'd love to watch a Phoenix-Golden State first round series. Can you imagine Shaq trying to keep up in that game?

Yup, but people in this thread have put the Suns and Lakers in the top 3, which can't happen.

WTF right now New orleans and Dallas are both in the top 3 in the western conference while both are in the same division.

lakers have a better chance for winning the division than the suns for 2 main reasons-

1. the shaq trade will alter the suns offense
2. the lakers have been doing well without bynum, imagine them with bynum.

ideally IMO, the Lakers just need to be in the bracket of NO, Utah, Den, and GS/Por

with SA, Dal, Phx, Hou in the other side...

So something like

1. LA
2. Phx/Dal/SA
3. Dal/SA/Phx
4. Utah* (div winner)
5. NO
6. SA/Phx/Dal
7. Hou
8. Den (or Port or GS - ouch the West is deeeep)

This would set up nicely as the other guys would fight tooth and nail for two rounds to whittle down to a finalist between Phx/Dal/orSA, and the Lakers would be ready to roll them after disposing of Den and the NO/Uta winner.

edit - all this assuming Den doesn't pull Artest out of their sleeve.

actually i think it can happen..i think the way it is now is that the three division leaders have to just have homecourt in 1st round...so a division leader can actually be 4th with a team w/ better record being 3rd

The 3 division leaders plus the team with the best record that is not a division leader are the first 4 seeds. Those 4 are ordered based on their record, so the 2 best teams of the conference always end up on seed 1 and 2, no matter which division they are from.

So yeah, if the Suns and Lakers end up with the best records in the west, they will be 1 and 2, with the other division leaders being 3 and 4.
