Malone and Glove were washed up but still pretty effective. If Bynum picks up right from where he left off, this is an awesome team in Laker history.

It's not even a question. Those Lakers might not even have made it to the finals with the talent now. Malone was still pretty solid but no allstar and GP and DF were about the same talent wise at that point.

The 04 Lakers was like a retired basketball players' reunion, minus Kobe

I liked the talent, but I HATED that season... it was riddled with injuries, bitching between teammates, Kobe's court trial, and they were defeated in the Finals.

This year's Lakers is firing on ALL cylinders, YOUNGER, more athletic, and above all - HUNGRY FOR A TITLE. This year's team is like a combination of the 3-peat Lakers led by Shaq (BYNUM), Kareem-led Lakers (GASOL) and the Six-peat Bulls (KOBE/ODOM)

Ok I'll remove my homer shirt now..

Malone was not an all star?? He pulled the chair on Duncan and KG so many times it wasn't funny. GP was also far superior to Fish during that period...talent wise.

People underestimate the toughness and experience of Malone and Payton.
Had Malone not been injured during the Finals, the result could be different.
