Bench Bynum? It's Lakers' best move

One of these days -- the timetable is as unpredictable as airfares -- Andrew Bynum will come back. When the big kid returns, the Lakers' odds to win the championship figure to jump from fair to favorite. Forget the Spurs and Celtics. The Lakers will be the team with the best of everything: go-to player, coach, bench and front line.

Phil Jackson can put Bynum in the post, kick back in his elevated perch on the sideline and enjoy the ride to ring No. 10. It's as automatic as a Kobe Bryant drive through the lane, right?

Well, maybe not. Sticking a young 7-footer in the same lineup as a new No. 2 scoring option has the potential for problems. Two starters, Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom, would have to switch positions, another, Vlad Radmanovic, would have to return to the bench, and all of the backups would have to adjust to diminished minutes. So many changes so soon before the playoffs is not a sure ticket for success.

Yeah Im not trying to start no mess. I was just posting another writers thoughts. This guy must have been reading some of your post snaq. He has some of the same ideas you had last week I think.....Wait, are you the author of this article?

what i meant was that kalel has some sort of obssession with this topic and it is either going to energize him into writting in a vigorous frenzy of why Bynum should not come off the bench or it might kill him with the responses he will be reading in this thread.

I like the idea of Bynum coming off the bench to begin with. I am sure there will be moments we will see Pau and AB on the floor together, we can take it from there on what the big pic should look like. The biggest prob I have with Bynum starting right away is that it pushes Lamar back to SF. The dude is playing like a beast right now and I wouldnt want the position change to get in his head all screwed up. We all know Lamar is a fragile creature. No disrespect to Lamar.

I really think that is a good idea in the first place. He hasnt played in many games and wont be in game shape, so the best bet is having him come off the bench and slowly contributing. I believe that when all cylinders are clicking with him then he will get the start alongside pau and LO. although i wouldnt mind seeing LO come off the bench for some games when this all happens.

I wouldnt be against it.. We had the best bench in the NBA at the beginning of the season with Bynum coming off the bench

If he's not fully ready, bring him of the bench. He'll start from the bench when he gets back before the playoffs. The question is : "Will he play from the bench the rest of the payoffs ?"

I suppose even if he's not that december-january Bynum, if healthy, he'll start sooner or later in the payoffs because of his interior presence. He may not have trouble when getting back into the lineup, but Pau may have. Lamar too, especially in defense defending quicker SFs.

I think that we will go with whats best to WIN. A few months ago NOBODY cared about us and now every writer has an opinion about what we need to do to be successful. F*** what they think. Talk about NUTRIDERS.

We know they will play it safe as far as working bynum back in and being as though we have been depleted by injuries ALL SEASON LONG I doubt any player on the team will object to falling into place. Seeing the team full strength will provide confidence and make us better down the stretch of the postseason.

If bynum was able to survive emotionaly though the summer I doubt coming off the bench in a championship run will hurt his feelings or slow his progress. Had not been for his injury he would and still has solidified his starting spot.

We mostly are concerned with whether or not lamar will be able to slide to the three and still be effective. I have enough confidence that Pau can go back to his natural position at the four.

Although injuried I'm sure bynum has been at practice and will be mentally prepared as far as the system is concerned and seeing how easy it was for pau to step into the center slot fresh into our system I am sure bynum will be able to have a impact especially being a presence in the paint defensively.

If odom cant bring what we need we have to decide whether he, ariza, or bynum will be best suited to start and I think that will be decided by playoff matchups but in the back of my I see lamar stayin at the four IF this becomes a problem.

I have already spoken my piece with it so I won't say anything I didn't say before. The only thing I will say is this reminds me of the Knicks in the finals year, they had Camby and used him as a 6th man and kept Larry Johnson as a starter and they almost didn't make the playoffs then they starting using Camby more alot more and I am pretty sure started him and then they made the finals.
