The Lakers are 27-5 against sub .500 teams and this sentence:"The Bobcats game changed everything." is laughable at the very least. 1/82 of the season suddenly changes everything?
The Hornets have lost to Indiana and Minesotta (at home), to the Wizards twice, but have played the sub .500 teams a bit better than the Lakers.
Hickups happen... and one crappy game doesn't drop Kobe from 1 to 10 all of a sudden.
I do agree Paul has some momentum going for him at the moment, but it could all change just as well after a couple of games.

Kobe Didn't Quite Lose the MVP Just Yet....
Basically, from what I've been hearing around the league, the winner of the MVP will be the best player on whatever team comes out of the west.
Check that, it will be whoever finishes higher in the standings....Hornets, or the Lakers.
The Lakers have a tall order trailing the hornets by two in the lost column. But don't forget that the Lakers play the Hornets one more time before everything is said and done, at staples center. Gasol has a 50/50 chance of coming back on Sunday (pray that he does, cause I just don't think we beat Washington without him). Bynum should follow suit at least in time for the Hornets game.
I still believe the Lakers with everyone who is coming back have a 50/50 shot at winning out. 9 games left, I think it will take 8 wins to tie for first in the Western Conference after looking at everyone's schedule.
Kobe's MVP hopes hinge on getting those 8 wins. If Paul finds a way to lead the Hornets to the top, I just don't see how you can justify not giving it to him, whether or not he's paid his "dues".

Thats because the MVP award is an acknowledgment of greatness. Despite the short comings with the award the last two years, you can't be considered as one of the greats of all time if you haven't one at least one. And spare me your examples of all the great players that never won an MVP, I'm talking Jordan, Magic, Bird, status. For Kobe not to have won an MVP in the last two years is an farce against our intelligence, and it needs to be corrected.
Yeah, it's all about the Championship....I get it, but I want JUSTICE!!!

Although both Paul and Kobe both deserve the award, I think a fair voter would have to take into consideration that Kobe has carried a team plagued with injuries all season long to such a high standing. Hornets are playing well this year because they have been healthy for the first time in a long time while we have a similar record playing without almost half of our rotation. At the end of the day, standing shouldn't be the only thing that matters.

problem is... we might not win the championship this year. And if Kobe doesn't win the MVP? It could have a deleterious effect on us when we try to re-sign him in 2 yrs.
I care about Kobe getting the MVP.

As much as I'm trying to convince myself that I don't care if Kobe wins the MVP, it's not working anymore. Probably because he's so freaking close to it, he can almost feel the touch of the trophy.
If these last two games ultimately cost him the award, it will be a terrible terrible shame.
And more fuel for the haters to light ther fire.
While I would like them to win a 'ship infinitely more, if they don't manage this year, an MVP for Kobe would at least be some consolation.

if the cavs had about 45-48 wins right now then the mvp talk would be one sided with King James winning it...but
Kobe has a chance since the lakers have a decent record but I say until kobe makes some shots in the 4th quarter under the 5 minute mark, he's not an MVP.
step up when it matters most and lead your team.

Err... According to 82 games.com Kobe has been pretty damn clutch in the last 5 minutes of the game this season (Lebron's been better).

Does anybody know how good CP3 is? He is having an incredible year. If Chris was not having a season like this, then of course, Kobe is MVP. But I got to give it to CP3 this year. I knew the Lakers was going to be good this year. But i never seen the Hornets coming at all. 25 pts 12 ast since the allstar break is pretty amazing.

You knew the Lakers would be fighting for the 1st seed this late in the season with essentially the same roster they've had in the past 3 years (minus the 18 games Gasol's played) and while they were projected to be somewhere around 20th in the whole league? Wow, you have an amazing ability, man.
We can also spin it the other way. If Kobe was not having a season like this, then of course, Paul is the MVP. If Kobe had been awarded for the first outstanding performance, he'd have at least 2 MVPs already

I'm obviously exaggerating... but that's my intent.
cheers

I'm not going to go back and fourth with you. Evidently you are biased. You are correct I did not see the Lakers battling for 1st place this season. But did they have the potential to do it? Yes. When you have the best player in the league, everything is possible. But CP3 is having a better season than Kobe. point blank. It's just my opinion. Respect it, like I respect your's.
