GM of the year

Post#1 » by Kreuk » Thu Apr 3, 2008 7:16 pm

Who is the GM of the year?

Kupchak

- aquired gasol for kwame + crittenton + filler
- traded cook and evans for ariza
- signed fisher
- most importantly and to the dismay of many here... didnt trade our "crappy" players for the first thing we could get

first 50+ win season in like 4 seasons

Ainge

- acquired Ray Allen
- acquired KG
- signed eddie house
- signed sam cassell
- signed james posey

first 50+ win season in god knows how long...

Both Ainge and Kupchak got some help from old friends to land the blockbuster players... Ainge and Taylor... Kupchak and West...

Both franchises are once again on the verge of greatness... but who is more responsible and who deserves it more?

I say Mitch for sure because he was under alot of pressure to make what would have been a horrible trade in Bynum an Odom for JO.
He got a huge steal in Gasol. Yes the Celtics got KG and Allen but they gave up alot for it.

I'm sorry but on this board, I don't vote for anything Celtic.

Mitch deserves it for his role in handling the almost disastrous crisis in the beginning of the season and for getting Gasol.
He could have easily panicked and made a dumb move like getting JO for Bynum, but he hung in there, took the hits, and delivered a winner.

Mitch all the way.

Mitch ! No way Ainge, because he's Celtic !

Even if he acquired 4 of KGs, I wouldn't vote for him !

iono...its a toss up with me...the celtics did more add-ons..but they gave up alot too...they gave up a young 20/10 stud in al jefferson...

lakers on the other hand...gave up kwame Freaking brown..a certified Bust...and javaris crittenton whose a rookie but memphis fans seems to like him..

iono...tossup

mitch did the better job because he had less to work with, but i'm not sure voters will be able to ignore what is probably the biggest turnaround in nba history - from worse record to unrivaled best record.
ainge is defenetly worthy - not only with putting together the big 3 (and keep in mind that even if you think mchale helped him with kg, ray allen was an absolute steal for what he cost !), but also free agent signings (posey, house), drafting (powe, big baby), veteran additions (cassell, pj brown), and the most underrated part - sticking with doc rivers.
i think ainge will win it.

still, it's hillariously ironic when you think who the two leading candidates are for this award...

how is giving up on Delonte West, Wally and the 5th pick in the draft is too much for a player of Ray Allen's caliber ?

Just imagine what could have happened to the Celtics had they got a top-2 pick in the lottery. Ah imagine the decisions Ainge would have had to make, Draft Oden or DUrant? Trade Pierce?
