But I don't Paul should, because he had better support for the year. For Kobe, Bynum was out for half the year, and Gasol was out for nearly a month after that. Considering we're right up there despite those injuries to our pivotal players, and considering Kobe's role in keeping our team competitive, that should be the deciding factor.
Yeah ! If CP3 had been without Chandler for a dozen of games, NOH would've been a couple of seeds lower.
Kobe hasn't had Bynum and Gasol for about 60 games if together, and the Lakers are just one game behind NOH. Let's give it to Kobe !

How do you know that?
Are you psychic?

^^Yeah, I'm pretty sure the 4.1 ppg and 3.0 rpg that Ely provides would be a solid replacement for Chandler. Not to mention his stunning +4.67 efficiency.
If Chris Paul didn't have West and Chandler for 20 games (15 of those against +.500 teams), they don't go 10-10 like the Lakers have gone without Bynum and Gasol. I don't need to be psychic to tell you that.

As much as we KNOW that kobe should win, its always gonna come down to the press. Kobe has outlasted the early favorite "KING JAMES" (
) and now another savior is tossed ahead of the true MVP in order to keep things biased as usual.
It makes us look like homers to some that we would like kobe to get at least ONE that he has deserved due to the work he put in on the court after being blackballed the last few years, but realisticly outside of the ignorant most of the push for it has been legit. I will be satisfied with ONE because I KNOW the real truth.
Also being as though I know that every player even in discussion for MVP are truley talented players I dont try to discredit their abilities, I just feel the NO OTHERS face the same PERSONAL BIASES that kobe has stacked against him. Its bad enough he has to compete against Lebron and CP talent wise but to also compete with scorned press officials who actually VOTE for the award is a bit much.
This isnt the most popular player or the humanitarian award, but the MVP we are talking about.
The only thing that may be good about this whole thing is that I KNOW in the back of kobe's mind this is pure motivation and that its a strong possibility that CP can take the same MVP route that Dirk took last year and spend quite a bit of quality time with the trophy at home.
Like I have said earlier all of those explosive games that we are accustomed to see from kobe hasn't really taken play YET and he is pacing himself to be full bore for the postseason. Also by playing team ball all year long it has allowed chemistry to build amon his teammates and he can identify who can be trusted.
You add a rejuvinated, full bore, pissed off, team-oriented kobe to the team that has matured and added a all star big and head are gonna roll in a few weeks.
Last time I checked the championship trophy was alot taller and more important thant the MVP trophy anyway.

I don't think Kobe is in any danger of losing the MVP award. I've seen him no less than second from the vast majority of people who have publicly come out and say they have a vote. I've also seen Kobe as #1 in many of the voters eyes - Marc Stein, David Aldridge, Dan Patrick, Kenny Smith, Ernie, Woody Paige, Sam Smith just to name a prominent few. Chris Paul has some supporters out there who will presumably put him #1 on their ballot.
Where Kobe pulls away is his number 2 votes. Except for Hollinger, most have Kobe at #2 at the worst. If you look at Aldridge for example who has Kobe #1, he has Paul at 4. He has Garnett at 2 and Lebron at 3. Sam Smith has Lebron at #2, KG at #3 and CP at 4.

Hollinger is an idiot. And I don't call a person an idiot that lightly.
When the Lakers were sitting at the top of the Conference, he had James at #1 because he had the better stats. Now that the Lakers have fallen and the Cavs lost a lot of bad games, Paul is suddenly on top.
He said that he doesn't understand why Kobe should be the MVP, because he doesn't have the best stats, doesn't have the best team record and he hasn't been the best teammate. A couple of weeks ago he said that he can't vote for someone who coasted through the first two months as the MVP.
That is, in fact, what only an idiot would say. I'm not a vengeful type of person nor am I a passionate homer, but I would stuck this PER bull**** up his ass if I ever came across him.
Pardon my French.

... and where does Hollinger have Kobe? I'm guessing he's 3rd behing CP3 and LeBron. Hollinger is a moron.
Sam Smith has his in an article in the chicago tribune
For David Aldridge go to NBA.com (there's a video)
For Woody Paige, he said it on around the horn.
Kenny Smith talks about it on yahoo.com video
Hollinger has Kobe 4th. Cp3, Lebron, Garnett and then Kobe. He's an idiot though. Said it in one of his chats. Also said Garnett was MVP in 04-05 when Garnett didn't even make the playoffs.

The so called PITTY for Kobe to win the MVP .
Honestly I have passed by a lot of MVP threads , and your so called pitty MVP voting system .
Specially with all the NBA players rallying around Kobe to win the MVP award .
Thats pretty pathetic , I mean if a Laker fans speaks out against the voting then his a Kobe homer , but honestly does Kobe deserve the MVP award .
I would have to say , YES .
Its sad that the league and the Media has made such a big issue with Kobe , that it has come down to every single excuse that you can come up with not to give him the recognition that he deserves ... I think thats B.S .
Yet this article shows to me how ignorant these so called writers are when it comes down to this so called MVP award .
Even if the Lakers come out on the top of W.C and then there is no other pathetic reason that they can come up with .
I can still see all these threads popping up every where saying how Kobe never deserved it and he recieved it out of PITTY .
Honestly if I was Kobe and they decided to give me the MVP , I would give it back to them , just to prove to everyone that this isnt why Im in this league and why Im the best .
I think the only way Kobe will shut all this critics is by winning a title , even then everything is going to credited to Bynum , Pau , etc and not Kobe .........

But while Kobe's renewed commitment to team ball makes for a cute catchphrase, it's a misnomer. Obviously Kobe has matured, but he's a better teammate primarily because he's got a fellow All-Star in Pau Gasol, a deeper, more skilled bench, and an emerging star in Andrew Bynum. Teamwork becomes much easier when your teammates can actually do something with the ball.

Will injuries cost Kobe the MVP award?
if we were all healthy, I think this team could've easily eclipsed 60 wins. I think we would've been comfortably ahead of the hornets.
But the other leading MVP candidate (CP3) has his perennial lottery team at the top of the tough western conference and we just lost to the warriors, bobcats, and grizzlies at home...
many times, the voters just look at wins/ team turnaround when gaging who the MVP is...
and with kobe's checkered past, it might come down to just who voters like more as a person: kobe or CP3... and CP3 def. gets the nod.
in a race where we have a similar number of wins as the hornets, I think CP3 gets the nod, even though kobe deserves it more...
however, had our team been healthy and had we got 60+ wins, from just 45 the year before... kobe would have been a sure lock...
I think this MVP race is too close to call...
co-MVPs anyone?

My Bad , I thought that it would have served a better purpose in the open threads since it wasnt about whether or not he deserves the MVP .
Just that another media B.S that is trying to move the focus off the attention from Kobe to who wins the west should be who wins the MVP , so again , My bad .
I figured it was a different subject than your noraml MVP posts .
